Aka, "Lucifer" (still worth a watch though lol)

Never read that, so I really enjoyed the show.

It wasn't supposed to be? 🤣

I haven't seen Good Omens yet. Another one for the binge list!

The casting alone for that was perfect at least in the way I had pictured everyone involved.  They of course changed a few things around, most notably the ending they left it where there may be more someday and I was not disappointed.  I'm similar to the way you approach things by trying not to compare them to anything that might of been previous, but my expectations were hard to not be high for that one and its why I almost didn't watch it, but Gaiman also had a big hand in the script/production/etc, but that IMO never works out well for Stephen King when he has a hand in any film adaptions they usually are trash LOL.

Although I really enjoyed the Mr. Mercedes show(that's another I haven't seen the 3rd season of yet) but the first two were really great and I think King is credited as executive producer or something, which could mean as little as he said sure that'll work, have him wear a red shirt in that scene 🤣

Not Netflix, but Amazon Prime... Expanse. Great series. It has more of a realistic feel than Star Trek etc. And it has been well scripted and acted, despite a fairly large effects budget.

I've read those books, and I must say I think that show is my favorite thing I've seen on TV in a long time.  I've also really enjoyed the Discovery series of Star Trek.  Like you said it is refreshing.  I really liked Picard as well though more than I thought I would.  It wasn't just a complete nostalgia grab.

Lately I've been hooked on The Punisher. The other show I really dig is Altered Carbon.

I enjoyed both of those as well! Is there another season of Altered Carbon? I only saw one.

f you guys are looking for something on the lighter side of things, I recommend Resident Alien.

I haven't watched any of that though, but was told I'd probably enjoy it.

The new Lost In Space was excellent. I saw the original series, and I can safely say that the old version is cringe. Once you see that foil looking robot.. you... can`t un-see that 🤣

I think I started the first season of Lost in Space.  I didn't not like it, think I just got sidetracked.    I'm also starting to think I've watched too much tv in the last year reading this thread 🤣

Neil Gaimon is one of my favorite authors so I wasn't going to watch Good Omens or American Gods series, but soooo glad I finally did, both are really well written and casted and a really great blend of being close enough to the book, but different enough so it fits a film adaptation.  I'd recommend them both even if you haven't read the books.  I've just now gotten to the start of the 3rd season of American Gods though, so it could always go south.

I also watched "The Little Things" last week.  It was good and worth watching for a pretty decent job doing a take on a "buddy cop" genre that I enjoyed quite a bit.

  3. I was at one point in time.  I've had many off road bikes Yamaha's and Suzuki's usually 125cc as that's really plenty for me if bored out a bit.

I have toyed with thoughts of getting another someday, but then like you @john  just the thought of it kills my back and lots of old breaks and injuries start hurting again.

I think I would go with more of a cruiser if I ever do get back into it.  The favorite one I've had was a super cheap Honda 350.  It might of cost $100 dollars at the time, was super reliable, great on gas and enough power to get me where I needed to go,  and not to mention it was fun to ride by people on their harleys/etc with haha.

I too would love an old Indian or even a flat or pan headed Harley to fix up.

  4. I've toyed with a ton of them from the insanely complex to the simple, anymore I stick with just two separate cheapo ones that can hold 10mins and infinite overdubs have a 1/2 speed and reverse.  They have a usb connect too so you can save and retrieve stuff if you're so inclined to play live with a laptop or other such device.  So anything I would ever want to do with one.   https://singularsound.com/product/aeros-loop-studio/ That one has me intrigued though since it can be operated mostly hands free.   I'll let ya know how I like it after I win the lottery 😂

This is one of the few people I know of that won't bore me to death while building a loop.  It turns into a real athletic endeavor 😂

Sheeran does catch a lot of crap, I'd have to agree with you on the jealousy thing though.  I've always appreciated his stuff even if its not my listening cup of coffee.

He's good---right outta the blues, and I like his soft voice (and vocal quality). Nice to hear someone not scream for a change...

Yeah I always considered his style as kumbaya surfer blues :D

But with each successive album after this (from 1980) Miles got stronger. Star People ('82?) had some good blues and he was really getting in shape. Good band, too---and Miles was always wise enough to know to take a new band on tour before recording. After a few months on the road not only is the band acquainted personally, but the repertoire is known and ripe for recording...

I always liked that album that tune was off of, but hearing some story on it, it makes sense to me now as my tastes have always leaned towards the "raw" stuff, too much shine and polish I tend to start thinking about too many takes and  too many rehearsal hours, and my skin starts to crawl and I can't just enjoy it, I haven nightmares about how much work it took :D    Star People is one I have, but haven't heard in years, I should give that another listen, will probably do that while I'm off to bed after a long weekend.

Other times it's just about that song, that moment and nothing else.

That's usually it for me, I tend to muddy things up too much if ever really try to think about it, and if there ever was a "message" it just gets convoluted and comes across pretentious, it's usually just a certain emotion or in the moment feeling.

I just want to write something that I'd like to listen to.

and that too! Just something I wouldn't immediately hate and turn off if I heard someone else doing it, at least in some aspect that peaks my interest, be it some wordplay, or an fx or riff or certain progression, or whatever I find intriguing.

  7. have had this stuck in my head all day...finally breaking down and listening didn't help, starting singing it after I got a little jolt from my newest project haha............one album that's pretty much always in regular rotation and frustrating to say the least in me trying not to rip it off as well, at least not too blatantly :D

  8. @john yeah yeah! Just side-tracked as always :D Next month will be a little more focused......that's the plan anyway haha

I have learned patience, I mean I still have some tunes I've been sitting on for roughly 20 years I've never recorded more than a sketch of  and a lot of those said recordings are lost to time hahah, the little writing challenge I'm doing now my plan was to focus on getting a lot of that stuff up to snuff even by my low standards, but have just been making more noise and quite enjoying myself, but have gotten pretty happy with my patchwork recording setup at least, so that's a plus.   I still need to do some massive editing down and pick a 30-40 minute chunk of stuff I'd even want promoted other than hey listen to this weird little thing I did 🤣

Yeah I really loved his first couple albums(haven't heard but snippets of others), and as JohnW mentioned, seen him a few times....damn been 14-15 years ago now, but nice down to earth fella.  "Times like These" one of my favorite tunes of his.......pretty timeless :) gonna have to give it another listen haha.

    edit:

hahaha probably shouldn't have, I've inadvertently ripped that off a few times now ;) well we're both ripping off the same author,  oopsie

Thanks, John!  Bass is one of my favorite instruments and I love funk, big time. He's got tons of talent and his smile is killer when he's playing. :)

and he seemed to attract at least one guy.......who knows what nuttiness might of been happening off-screen hahah!

Immensely talented. He makes it look so effortless.

That's the story of busking. Highs of attracting a crowd to "might as well be playing in the desert" lol That said it can teach you a lot about working a crowd as a performer. You go from being a musician to being a performer. Getting attention and keeping attention from an audience who arrive pretty well disinterested. They only have the sound of your music reaching them before they see you to get warmed up to the idea of staying to listen to you play. It also helps teach the importance of "right place, right time"!

yeah busy street full of shopping venues/restaurants.... while lots of people with cash fluttering about usually not the biggest "pay-out" bus stations/subways.......gotta catch them somewhere where they have to hear/look at you for a bit hahah, and the "poorer" crowd at those places realize you're probably not just there doing it for fun : D

and no time to put a big setup, you will be run-off eventually...........I mean it kind of defeats the purpose of busking if you have to pay a fee for your spot :D

I wonder how many of those passing by without even a look in that direction if questioned.........oh yeah I just LOOOOOVVVEEEE music! hahaha

    that's good stuff :)

    So no...not really

That did my heart good, too many would proclaim expert status at that point and never learn another thing from anyone only spout about their expertise and how you can only play drums with REMO heads and 5A sticks anything else and its just not up to par :) you're well on your way IMO!

    welcome :)

And indeed man, the progression is just golden. So much going on! It's always a pleasure to hear a tune that comes off so easy to the listener to take it in while including a healthy amount of technicality backing it! :)

Yeah it is a prime example of some great advice I've received.  Make the simple sound extraordinary and the extraordinary sound simple. :D I rarely pull it off, but always strive to

  14. This is really great!  agree with @john on his points though, hard to do that with a song that's as beloved as this one though, this song always intrigued me musically as well, it sure just sounds simple right? ;) but we know better hahaha.  I think you could uniquely make it your own if any other instrumentation was done on top, but I really enjoyed this just acoustic.  It's a tough line to toe, and deciding when to step on it or erase it completely :D  That's the 2nd very brave cover I've heard you do remarkably well!

Not to beat a dead horse with a dead mule ;) but... people, they just don't listen... or get me sometimes :)

If I ever happen to "record" anything, that looks "like a record", it's purely by accident.

Bottom line, there is NO fan base for me since Busking is now dangerous to do (need to pack a .38 special to defend your corner), coffee houses don't do that any more, and "open mics"..., well, I just can't compete with the stunningly beautiful man in drag and glitter doing Donna Somer, followed by me and "Millenial Child" ;) so to speak... (no matter what the own says... no, not until we get our own Originals Only Night).

-- For "busking" ? -- scheit... good has nothing to do with it, -- entertainment and fun engagement with folks looking for fun on their vacation... that's the good of it, off key or not... horse facing it around and making folks lost for 5 mins with you as lightening rod, -- that's "good", better than good.

-- For "Record" .... well, when you find an expert who can explain that, "in the moment" of the time of the Top 100, please, let me know, ---- I'm sure I can punch some 2020 hind sight holes in it, but, you never know, -- I would love to be wrong. However, even in the past times... they artist HAD a following, then got exploited... easy videomentuaries, ... Kansas, Doobie Brothers... "CBGB's", Hendrix... if can find a "real one"... ah, Van Halen (had 3000 "followers" and then got signed, but only after playing Back Yards for a long time... family of musicians too.)... -- no "Producer" ever took an "original" talent and then made them a "star". They made copies, after, but not prior to the Niche ID'd.

-- Cheers, my first "heat stroke from painting the back porch this fine HOT day, ---- has passed, so gotta go"  :)  Maybe we have some of that hand of God Sahara air up here, who knows... normally I LOVE the heat, never fell "sick", but, not today, or yesterday, ooohhh boy! 🥴

    Happy accidents do happen :)

Some places you can still safely busk, but better get the city permits first!......pretty much a self-defeating purpose, and those that do go that route are usually just doing it because they think its "artsy" and have something to put on their instafaceagramtube page.

Funny conversation the other day about performing......I vowed never to again unless wearing breakaway pants and a sequined thong underneath in case things weren't going so well hahahah, places I'm usually at it would go from bad to get the hell out in a hurry hahah.

Buddy Guy tells a story about not being able to play "his" music anywhere, other than small venues,  even when he was in the studio pressing albums/playing guitar for others,  until Clapton and the Creme boys cited him as an influence in their album, then Buddy was allowed to play whatever he wanted hahah, he thanks THEM now.

Hope you enjoyed porch painting! I was getting drunk and blowing things up all day :) managed to keep all my fingers!
