    Looking back on mistakes
    and failed detours,
    there was that moment
    when it all turned timeless.

    Rhapsody in soft flesh,
    that one moment,
    two of us streaming joy
    in morning light.

    In the car,
    full moon driving us,
    we shared
    each other’s silence
    in volumes
    printed on the landscape
    we claimed as ours.

    We were the only beings
in the world, a burst of welcome
    to everything inside us,
    new-found wisdom
    in our bones,
    exuberance and delight
    in each other’s eyes;
    the end of longing,
    the blossoming into each other
    above yearning.

Now, too restless for a return,
    a summons
    to the impossible embrace
    flies by unheeded.

    Baby, If You Go

Only one thing I know for sure baby,

if you go you’ll turn my world around,

sun go down forever, I'll go stone crazy

you commence to up and leave this town.

I'll get another job you don’t have to worry

get the lights and water turned back on

don't be in such a gosh darn all fired hurry,

you don’ wanna go, at least wait for dawn..

    (chorus)

Reconsider what they call the consequences

things'll get better down to the solid core

I'll get better, I'll patch up the broke down fence

you know, you remember, I bounced back before.

Now wait just one minute it’s a doggone fact

we've had our propah share of good times

I told you a thousand times I'd pay you back

all you seem to remember are my little crimes.

    (refrain)

    Ooooo baby, if you go

    Ohhhh baby, if you go.

Child, if you go on your cross country jaunt

our dreams will go up the pipe in smoke.

I swear  I'll give you most anything you want,

you know me darlin’ that’s not an idle joke

Reconsider what they call the consequences

things'll get better down to the solid core

I'll get better, I'll patch up the broke down fence

you know, you remember, I bounced back before.

    Baby, if you go

    Emm hmm, if you go

You're gonna turn my world around

    if you go

    Baby, please don’t go

    No oh oh no

  3. Drawn to a perfect silhouette
    effusive behind winsome veils,
    undeterred by dry etiquette,
    when the mystery source fails,
the svelte lady may well outlive
    all rewards suitors might give.

But a mind full seasoned and fine
    that delivers fresh thoughts pure,
and fuses hearts free from the vine,
is to any relentless pursuit inured.
    Intellect shows steady resistance
    to shows of dogged persistence.

  4. I'm confused on this one - not sure if it's about an old girlfriend or a military buddy - or both.  In either case, I suggest opening the poem with the 4th stanza.

  5. On 3/24/2023 at 8:59 AM, Omar Khalifah said:

They obligate their woebegoneness on me,
    Their long -term melancholiness,
    So I lower my tiptoeing,
    Quit the Quaintness
    Of the moon and
    Parch to sleep.

This, unfortunately, makes little sense to me.

    Could be -

They obligate me with their woebegone long term melanchology.

  6. Keepin' the spirit alive my friend, a very good thing to pass this one on to generations that follow. The horror fades in the minds of the politicians but we're still strong, a development maybe even better than bunching ourselves together - go after them from all sides. Good job.

  7. Whatever hold surprise has

    on my waking,
memories of you in my morning room,
    alive with day,
    drifting across the floor
    to open the shutters,
    then turning back to me
glowing as part of the sunrise,
    shrink those epiphanies to shadow.

    Your movements,
    twirling, arms raised,
    years ago, spring to mind;
    recollections
    brim with delight
    but bring to singular enjoyments,
racing up and down hills on horseback
or finishing, after months my latest novel,
    no clear bliss.

    This recall brings no refuge,
    only stillness,
settling the memory of your beauty
    into a calm sea mist;
for the sight of you I'd drown there,

    your eyes wed to mine.

  8. Quick, cosmic-cool,
    you hurled every idea
    your brain fireworked
    into the trippy tipsy dawn,
    and lit up the rackety
    clapboard love city houses,
    Southern Comfort swinging
    at your side between healthy
    swigs.

    You rolled and rocked
all the way to one nite
    paradise back seat hum,
    hallucinated Hank Williams
    beside you,
    Montgomery to San Fran,
    pedal down, sharing pills
    and stage stories, but chaste,
you only touched beams of light
    on each other's faces.

    You grabbed him
    out of his glum trance
    with jokes and flippy takes
    on silly songs you loved.

    Ah, Pearl, you tripped
    up and down the land
and left a trail of dazzled eyes
    inside the dreamy night.

    One time, you set midnight
    on fire and couldn't run
    it was so beautiful,
just sat in your painted Porsche,
    grinned and grinned
    until your shades fell
    to the floor,
    and you couldn't
    pick them up
    again.

    "Far From Me"

    As the cafe was closing
    On a warm summer night
And Cathy was cleaning the spoons
The radio played the "Hit Parade"
And I hummed a long with the tune
She asked me to change the station
Said the song just drove her insane
But it weren't just the music playing
It was me that she was trying to blame.

And the sky is black and still now
On the hill where the angels sing
Ain't it funny how an old broken bottle
Looks just like a diamond ring
But it's far, far from me

Well, I leaned on my left leg
    In the parking lot dirt
And Cathy was closing the lights
A June bug flew from the warmth he once knew
And I wished for once I weren't right
Why we used to laugh together
And we'd dance to any old song.
Well, ya know, she still laughs with me
But she waits just a second too long.

And the sky is black and still now
On the hill where the angels sing
Ain't it funny how an old broken bottle
Looks just like a diamond ring
But it's far, far from me

    Well, I started the engine
And I gave it some gas
And Cathy was closing her purse
Well, we hadn't gone far in my beat-up old car
And I was prepared for the worst.
"Will you still see me tomorrow?"
"No, I got too much to do."
    Well, a question ain't really a question
If you know the answer too.

And the sky is black and still now
On the hill where the angels sing
Ain't it funny how an old broken bottle
Looks just like a diamond ring
But it's far, far from me

  10. In my dream, night horses appear;
they stand in a courtyard, tall, sleek coated,
    they gallop feverishly through arches,
    uncover meanings that mystify me.
They rouse me in my dreaming to listen
    to some kind of sign in their movements;
they rush into a horizon I don't recognize.
They are striding back toward the beginnings
of this rough-hewn tale they're a part of
through the lost canyons of their home.
I who lived without song or deliverance,
who perhaps ignored the signs they gave me,
take the direction now as a sort of salvation.

    'They frisk their manes,
stand on their hind legs, pawing,
wild, impossible to saddle and ride.
They whinny in the near distance,
relaying the futility of my pursuing them,
    I'm left following dim echoes.

Their clattering hooves send out a code.

  11. This reminds me of the dadaist poets in its word play - rough around the edges but somehow to the point by the use of familiar lodestone words like nature.
