  1. It is important what an author wants, is looking for, believes in. Compositional skills are important, and a sense of self, a perspective, philosophy, worldview. But what is interesting is that for listeners that don't know a songwriter, what counts the most is the title of a given song. If they like the title, they will give a listen, if they don't know what to make of it or find it mundane and boring they'll never give it a second. Despite the best advice of Bo Diddley, people judge books by their covers.
  2. Yeah, something I might have said in introduction but neglected is that over the past several years the general situation has stimulated me to write quite a few topical songs, which necessarily become somewhat political. This introduces a consideration of the various motivations one may have for songsmithing. Indeed there are many reasons to write songs, to make money, to make a personal statement, as an act of therapy, as a social practice, an expression of love, of joy, of sadness, of wit and wildness, all of which colour what kind of songs one ends up writing. I don't want to give the impression that I only do topical songs, but I've been unable to not write a few, sometimes farcical, in the face of what I've been witnessing in the world. Of course the problem for topicality is that the shelf life is short, and the answer is no longer blowing in the wind.
  3. Yeah, I found this site just a few days ago when doing a search for info for boilerplate publishing contracts. I was getting ready to release an album and I wanted to write a contract between my production entity and myself. So far I've found nothing useful for my purposes, but I found this site. As I noted in my intro to myself, I don't do social media in general, but this kind of community thing made me want to make an exception. It seems like the architecture of the site promises to be fairly robust, though I guess it needs more members since I find a lot of empty rooms on the site.
  4. I note that I put "Maybe" to a question about collaboration. I would love to find a great singer to do my songs, but haven't up until now. I'm not a great singer at all, but I do the vocals when I record because I find it more acceptable than having them done by a better singer whose interpretation doesn't help my vision of the song.
  5. 24 song album of my stuff will be released on 14 Feb "Foreverly" Rarignac. Feedback welcomed.
  6. I write music, lyrics, and produce recordings of my songs. I don't do most "social media" and never have. I live in Bordeaux. It is where I record. I am a member of SACEM. I am interested in contract information, boilerplate agreements between artists and publishers, should anyone have anything to share.
