  1. Well I tried.

The newest Quicktime file stuck like the others. I was able to get one of the

(now) five files to stream - and Steve taught me this option applies only to

my computer. Seems the streaming has a shelf life of about 18 hours - today

when I tried the stream, the file "vanished". So I have three vanished files and

    two stuck ones.

[smiley=vocals.gif] Therefore I'm done with Quicktime for now and will find

    an open window elsewhere!

And PS: The main thing is I got to hear it...for that I'm really glad.

  2. Just sent Steve a message asking how I can send him my (3rd) quicktime file -

before it vanishes again! I have great confidence if I can get the file

into Steve's hands, all shall be well, no disappearence or any marring will occur.

I'm posting this note as a sort of accountability factor to simply get stuff I've

done out there (recalling Lazz "audience wants to identify w/ artist's struggle"

    against my Scandanavian perfectionistic streak).

And finally throwing in here the CD Baby guy's cool outlok: What might happen if I...?

  3. Hey Steve ~

Thanks a lot. My apologies for delay in reply.

I'd love to send it - a weird thing happened, tho, the quicktime file disappeared

(which I blamed on the children); JF sent another, and it too vanished. I wrote him

several days ago asking for an alternative file... we'll see.

Why did the file vanish, I wonder? I clicked the desktop icon, the tiny window w/

JF's "movie" came up, which was promply replaced by a larger quicktime screen

w/ Mr. T and A-team and all this shyte. I clicked edit or file or something, then

open, then "recent" which listed my song. Clicked on it: "file not found".

That's what's happened twice. Is there a time limit on the file?

  4. Yeah, it's a movie. Or rather, it had to become one in order for the person to send the audio? Who knows,

I don't. You think quicktime sounds bad, Finn? I thought it was fine.

Ok...so I ask them to send it in wav or mp3 then.

I think I can figure it out from there. But if quicktime is all I can get, I'll give another shout.

Appreciato (and howdy there, Finn :) )

  5. Hey y'all,

Steve, what would my little life be w/out you?

John Nightwolf, not sure there's a comparison for guitars as regards comparison electronic/acoustic drum kit. Ya know how sometimes you can't taste or smell from really bad sinuses or cold? That's what it was like, something vital was missing and thus the electronic kit not as enjoyable. That being said, I think one could finangle and finese to work w/ it and revive some sense of taste and smell. Oh - real drum heads are strong, even a Wolf can't break em that easily!

Rudi, so hungry to play that victim not a part of it, but I do know what you mean. What's going on w/ your new bassist and all? Well wishes for you (and Mum).

Next day: Rudi, may Mum rest in peace and I beg your pardon. :(

  6. Nightwolf~

Mesh? Now that sounds more my speed.

They were just like practice pads, and the cymbals too, which I kept hitting on the wrong part.

I way missed the physical action of the high hat going up and down, tho that sound was there

depending if foot kept it open or closed.

They were harder to play, I think cause the

dynamics thing wasn't happening on the electronic kit as on acoustic.

I still think the drummer should be able to play soft enough acoustically, if necessary (intolerant I know!)

Maybe only brushes should be allowed at a coffeeshop venue.

And use an Oatmeal jug for the kick drum!

    What's your experience/take on them?

  7. Mon Capitaine,

Are you kidding? I do not forget about playing on your stuff, that'll be a dearly realized goal once it happens!

(And unexpected is Great!!) Er um almost don't wanto say it should that coax a jinx, but God bless Dan, during

break eating Benefit Tacos he looks at Todd nonchalant and says, "We're gonna record Donna at our studio."

During the set, he begins this yelling conversation during a song, "HOW MANY ORIGINALS YA GOT?"

    TBcont.

  8. ...the CD Baby guy has an interesting take, which is to expressly define one's genre.

And at the same time to intentionally alienate (might be

too strong of a word) or discourage audiences which aren't "your own".

It did make sense when I read it! :0

  9. Hey~

Benefit for an ill woman, friend took me to see her brother's band (Dan and I'd played

in jazz music college long time ago). Drummer is childhood friend (Todd).

Dan hauled me up to sit in as soon as I got in the room proper - now there's a true friend!

    Wasn't expecting it.

First song chick-singing (sorry singers-only no offense, just not into that), then Dan

threw me behind the kit and Todd was SO cool about it, think I played 2/3 of the set.

Wore a mic head set, too, 1st time while drumming anyway. Todd is a very good

singing drummer. The cat ran up out of the audience to sing/front and I thought an excellent

showman (75% of that - to me - is being a great singer).

The elctronic kit...I understand the pro's of it, specially mixing wise. Too early

    to make a judgement call.

But: I'd been playing my heart out, esp. Born on the Bayou, and after that, Todd sauntered

back and said wow the volume's way too low. He turned it up.

O well - I knew I'd been playing my heart out.

Didn't know barely any of their covers. Said I've been doing originals so

long, not keeping up w/ this other stuff. Dan said us too!

I keep forgetting no one knows I can sing and drum...or maybe they do know and

we haven't played together that genre of music. Anyway Dan was laudatory in a way that suggested he

hadn't "quite" heard me before - I know the cat didn't forget! Sorry vain tangent, still scratching my head though, as

w/ Loonan and his comments - it'll bug me til I figure it out. I don't understand, have always known what THEY can do.

It must be that I got better, what else could it be? But ho whoa, had I been MIA in music THAT long?!?

    (yeah I had fun!)

  10. The title thread I realize should be changed to "Step by Step DVD to Youtube".

OK so I done it, got the dvd encpypter and now the DVD is in BUP, IFO and VOB files (?).

    Are those file names?

What next - er, I mean toward the final goal of uploading some O'Gara's clips to Youtube?

(Also! Is there anyway to mix sound on a dvd? Wanting to boost drums/bass or lower other instruments' volume)

    Thanks a lot!!

  11. Hey Tom,

That's something I never think about (no bottom heads), took em off since I was a kid and store the rims somewhere around here...always have a spare head, too!

Saw that pic on myspace of your black set...listening now to Dorian Dilemna and liking it. Ooh...the next one w/ harp intro. I like harmonica a lot. Hey man, I like your singing a lot on this one (The Usual Suspects). And I think I'd read that lyric before on the boards here maybe?

    Cheers!

  12. Yay - thanks Nick. Uproarious laughs, glad someone caught me like that - Mischke is NUTS! And it's great.

Man I love that pic of the crowd (where TD and aud. member are dancing)...there's this woman, looks like

a relation of mine actually, brought her car seat or something, reclined on that boozy floor. People are fun!

Every new thing that comes up out of this is another Christmas present.

  13. :-[

Well now, I sleep better at night, having had that night. But it means very little w/out friends to share it with.

    A singular gig...this one'll be remembered always.

If interested, some cool person has a great photoalbum of that night, really shows its flavor. Including pics of

two beloved famous callers, both elderly, Paulie (w/ the neck brace) and Sam Hawk, our Native American hero (w/ cap):

    Here baby

  14. Hey All,

Just wanted to update that we dropped the cover, and Loo is playing piano on my tune w/ the ripe observation that

I hold back to meet him half-way in this new flavor-of-a-tune HE has created by putting those talented

    fingers to the keyboard.

translation: riffs won't apply for the gig this week - plus it'll be enough to sing it. Quality before fumbling :)

This is from my blog tonight, so I'm getting other views and it's good:

After the cares of the day, seeing John Denver's smiling face [via TV] was lovely. Seeing him singing w/ others.

His sound was fine and rounded, not a thing missing playing solo, usually only strumming.

  15. Hey D,

    What everyone said.

    BUT-

If you mean multiple meanings/layers, I'm not much help. However, if you mean depth as in more interesting, poetic,

original, artistic then my 2 cents is you could fiddle w/ the words in this way...instead of "when you did this, it made me think of" maybe write "your soul

tumbled out and that pain colored my day".

Maybe concentrate on the verbs. It'd be a place to start any way.

Not like you need a thesaurus either. John said FEEL, so if "pain" makes you think/feel "searing" or "red" or "black bottomed

dung heap", or "ice hot" or "eternal ache" bringing that stuff in lyrically may be satisfying for you.

I think you should try to follow your lights in this attraction to deeper meaning'd lyrics - if it doesn't work for you, no harm done.
