  1. 1. Do you sing, play an instrument or instruments? yes What instruments? whatever i can get my hands on. i have been collecting them since i was a kid. I often do not have much of a budget but am an excellent scavenger currently have a room full of instruments, in varying states of repair (i call them my special needs classics), i am either learning to repair them myself (just redid the action on my old upright after watching a few youtube videos), or bartering with other trades. When did you start playing? hard to say, i'm from a musical family. i wrote my first song at 3 or 4 but sad to say ive never sat down and really learned any one thing inside and out. i would certainly like to experience what its like to have a proficient technical grasp of at least one, preferably many instruments. but so far i must resort to tricks to get the sounds out :-D Did you teach yourself? mostly, some brief but life changing lessons here and there but mostly self taught. 2. Are you in a band or bands? not really, i am very much a "musical hermit" and have only very recently decided to show anyone anything. 3. Do you write songs? yes. Do you write lyrics, music or both? both, and record and produce myself, and play all of the instruments. i do everything myself, because until very recently it was mostly a private occupation, much like writing in a diary. Do you have a writing partner? no. once in awhile i have jammed with people. ive collaborated on a few songs, and i have done production/ editing work on other peoples songs, but in more of a supporting role. 4. Do you record your music? yes Do you use a home studio? If so what gear do you use? i spent a year covered in soot and cinder, renovating a corner of an old fire damaged warehouse for this purpose. now my father and i have a project studio there, but alas he is usually too busy to use it, so it is usually just me and the setup i have been slowly collecting, Mac based, but i also have an old british style console that will be pretty nice once i completely restore it. Do you use a recording studio? Do you have music available on the web? if so where? i currently have snippets and rough demos on http://soundcloud.com/solicolloquy 5. What other roles do you perform in the music business? have done some promotion, production, and armchair social work for musicians ha-ha. oh right and i have a degree in audio engineering/music management. 6. Are you a tech head? definitely, i love antique and vintage instruments but equally love my computer and sound gadgets. I am not entirely an audiophile though, i more love the composition side of technology, the ability to compose, arrange, and sculpt sound in novel ways. 7. What country do you live in? u.s.a. 8. What are your ambitions? too many to name. but truly, i would like to, more than anything, somehow record the album that has been churning around in my head for the past decade or so. also, i would like to someday experience being a lounge singer on a dirty third rate cruise ship. 9. Do you draw/paint/write stories/computer art/dance or other creative pursuit? What are your pastimes? learning trades, i am a hack of all trades, love the experience of new mediums. love sculpting, illustration, sculptural gas welding, tattooing, portraiture, found art collage, restoring or reinventing antiques, am currently bartering my studio time to learn how to sculpt in glass, and developing a new style of doing colored stain art on wood floors. 10. What would you like to get out of Songstuff? i would like to become less shy about my own work, work on refining it, and connect with musicians outside of my current sphere.
