  1. I actually like it off to the right like that. Just don't like it being so big. Also don't like the arrangement of the arrow keys. Each time I reach for the shift key on the right side I end up hitting the up key and everything jumps to the line above.
  2. Is it the one from star trek TOS?
  3. Trying to get used to my new wireless keyboard/mouse. It's a pain I keep reaching for the shift key and end up hitting the up cursor key. I got it to reduce fatigue associated with how far away my mouse is from my body and it's proving odd getting used to a touch pad again.
  4. While I'm happy that you've got some click thru ads going....What's with the filipino dating link? https://tpc.googlesyndication.com/simgad/3324081485367151730
  5. No job offers I've been banging on doors like mad. This from my boss So I'll see maybe one more paycheck from him but it may not be my usual monthly"
  6. The best band name with a solid following I ever had was "hit 'n run" The drummer and the bass player were big baseball fans. My favorite unused band name is "Synthalolics" I want to be in a synth band that uses all synths like Human League. For a long time in Detroit you could put together bands like dropping a hat. We had 6 Kiss tribute bands. Bands that specialized in spy movie/tv theme songs etc.
  7. Sometimes longer and sometimes not at all. Gibsons have two profiles. Thick rounded and thin tapered. I never liked the rounded even though it produces more punchier mid sustain then the thin ones.
  8. I should have qualified that. Every year we have a big music festival called "Blowout" http://mtblowout.com/
  9. Sorry Rudi but you'll never be able to play in the Detroit area with that band name. I resemble that remark My last name is Chrysler. and I'm in my mid 50's.
  10. Re Beyond Faces... There was this band called "Small Faces" then an already somewhat famous Rod Stewart joined them and they became "Rod Stewart and the Faces" They tried to hold it together when Rod Stewart went solo as just "Faces" but that didn't last long. "Beyond Faces" sounds like a reunion tour for the surviving members of Small Faces / Faces. Many cover bands will choose a title of a song made famous by another band/artist. Worked for the Rolling Stones. Locally I usually advise using local landmarks or streets for names "The Woodward Brothers" "The Dodge Park Five" "Wide Track Mark"
  11. Have you ever been to a thrift shop and browsed the record collection? I couldn't stop giggling when I went into the local Salvation Army store a few years back.
  12. They still make CD's? Re Turntable.... They do make better turntables ..with higher quality and you can even get a used one for pretty cheap that works amazingly well. Also it doesn't hurt to clean the disc before playing songs (cleaning the stylus may help as well) I'm already back in my "not listening mode" with the exception of a few postings here.
  13. There are no "why's here" What happened when to get to the emotional state. Tell a story.
  14. When I first came here (and still occasionally do) I'd scavenge through the Poets Corner looking for good lyrics. If they had a good "flow" and contained good story writing I'd be all over it trying my hand at writing music to lyrics. That's about where it would end as I'd never record anything. Nonetheless it was a great pastime.
  15. Not all of us have the wherewithal for IRL encounters. At one point I was working two jobs and I was lucky to get a Tuesday or Wednesday Day only (still had to work that night) off. What resulted is I had to schedule guitar lessons in the afternoon in order to get some jam / collaboration time in. These days that's not even possible. I really like the collaboration thing happening online here at songstuff even though I haven't joined in.
  16. The two things that kills me more then anything is split points for various layered/stacked sounds and range. C is not natural for me. Even if I tune my baby - To a 6 string bass (b-e-a-d-g-c) It still drives me nuts. as in some cases I only have one octave for the bass and many times I can't get in my mind the split point. I'd rather map out two or three octaves for the bass and then map out a separate zone for whatever other instrument. Two part stuff is always more fun for me on a ztar. I want to get better at building my own synth presets, so far I've learned nothing from watching youtube videos.
  17. I love bluegrass, though I would never play it. It's one of those things that I always felt was outside my dominion.
  18. No, not twerking that I'd rather not know. I spent 3 hours yesterday with one plugin trying to get usable sounds out of it that weren't the presets. The plugin was an ME80 which is based on the Yamaha CS80. In short I'm not a tweaker. Usually I'll bring up a preset and leave it at that. I never spend that much time carving up tones, Which is prolly why I wasted that much time trying to get some usable tones from it and generally walking away frustrated. I'm the same way with guitar effects, When I find that one or two happy mediums I leave it exactly there. I know quite a number of people who care less about actually playing then tweaking tone. That is the entire point of opening a daw for them. How much time to you spend tweaking tones?
  19. I can't believe I haven't responded to this thread. Great Review
  20. Sometimes people have skills as a performer and not skills that have to do with arranging. I don't have the skills I used to in regards to listening translating into retaining / performing. Fortunately I do have some basic arranging and relative pitch skills. About ten years back a buddy of mine got a touring gig with a band that had been together since the 60's The problem was while he was a great guitar player he had no arranging skills and very limited relative pitch for harmony. The rest of the band (drummer / bassist / singer) where useless in guiding him along. I ended up doing video chord charts ala band in a box and a screen video capture program. I spent about 30 minutes per song and I did 30 songs for the guy. The band wanted me to do more but they never paid me. I no longer score other peoples works. Technology is at a point where it's better and faster then my personal abilities.
