The article says the you get a clean guitar signal through it - I'm guessing it's part of the requirement for a record, or should be if not! Any equipment failures would be the worlds biggest headache though

Doubt you'd actually ever do much actual song writing with one of those though - you'd spend at least 10 years just playing around with the vast number of different sounds you can make with it!
