Use Overheads?

Do you use overheads on your kit or do you just let the rest of the mics pick up the ambience of your kit?

Hi

It depends on if I want to capture the sound of the room the kit is in, and how much control over the individual drums I want. If I want maximum control over the levels I let the kit mikes do the job.

I use a pair of Audio Technica ATM33a's to pick up the extreme high frequencies that dynamics just can't get.  I like the "shimmer" from cymbals to be quite present.
