Autumn ( I can hear Garison Keeler reading this one )

You came on Summers coat tails,

Cloked in the mist of a nor easterly night.

Your breath of frost made prisms of icy delight

On our window panes that night.

Your crisp bright rays danced through the morning haze

The news papers lay wet on the lawns.

The days turned colder, each night you grew bolder

And soon ole Summer was gone.

Bright colored leaves swirled like butterflies in the breeze

The squirrels flipped their tails in alarm

The sweet smell of last years cut oak

Drifted over cities and farms.

It was back to school time for goblins and ghouls

Roasting marsh mellows in the park.

Fire places and embers warmed our November

The cold snows of December and early dark.

We'll remember you well, your bright colors and smells,

The crunch of leaves in the park,

And we'll see you next year when again we hear

The honk of wild geese overhead in the dark.
