Can anyone recommend...

Hmm! Well I warned I probably couldnt help. There was an ancient (still is somewhere) mandolin at my mothers house, with no makers name. It was also almost impossible  to play.

I expect you could research as well, or better, than me. As a starting point, are there any mandolin players you like? I rather like David Grisman.

played with a few bluegrass folk here in the states and most prefer the Gibson f style like bill monroe played.There ridiculousely expensive now but I'm sure the sound and styles been copied in more affordable instruments,That's the traditialists choice but  sounds subjective so who know?
