Hello, Fellow Musicians!

Hi and Welcome to the forums.

Experience is something you have to do for yourself. If you are in it for the long term it's best to set some goals. Find music you can already play or are just a bit beyond your current abilities as a means to strengthen them and expand them. Start with a set list. This is ten songs you can play in public back to back. Then go out and play them for anyone who will listen. Don't get discouraged when the response is not as you had wished for. Just go out and do your best and leave it at that. Your confidence will rise as your ability to perform does even if you have a less then appreciative audience.

In regards to purpose. Find a style you can put stakes into and try to call it your own. Stick with it. Those who hop around from genre to genre on a daily basis don't get good at any of them. Find something that matches your personality. Music begins as a search for personal expression and often returns there. Seek music that you can identify with as a medium for the direction you take. Being a musician means being able to make an emotional commitment to your craft. It's not for the wishy washy. Play it like you mean it.
