Lengthy Songs?

Recommended Posts

The original post seems dated but this topic still seems to be generating interest. One thing I've come across since this thread started was an Article about a Band based out of Ann Arbor, Michigan that released different songs of silence on Spotify that ended after 30 seconds of play with a fan base that was encouraged to listen while they slept.  The rational was that streaming royalty rates have changed to pay an Artist after 30 seconds of users listening to a stream and that Artists that give more lengthy tracks seem to be screwing themselves with the current system. With this Band they took it to the extreme of your screwing yourself including anything more than silence.

The radio format encouraged the previous timeframes of songs - it seems the streaming services might have the effect of shorter songs with the current royalty system.

Any thoughts on the changing commercial standard for length and where it is heading?

Cheers,

RKG

Just the fact that this is being discussed is sad ... and funny at the same time!
