Our Walk Of Life

This is just a little fun poem tellin' the story of a day in the life of a shepherd here in Scotland. ( Yes, I used to be one)  :001_smile:

PS, it flows along quite well to the tune of All Shook Up by Elvis   :D

OUR WALK OF LIFE

Peat smoke drifting from a chimney stack

Snow blows over every step of my track

Bent right over like a half shut knife

Trusty dog at my heel, it’s our walk of life.

It’s our walk of life.

I raise my head, just to snatch a look

The driving sleet blinds, every step that I took

My left hands warm inside my oilskin suit.

The right hand’s frozen to my Shepherd’s crook

There’s ice clogging up my tackety boot

The smell of wet dog, coz the dog has shook

There’s a murmur on the right from a babbling brook

A life so idyllic in that picture book

Peat smoke drifting from a chimney stack

Snow blows over every step of my track

Bent right over like a half shut knife

Trusty dog at my heel, it’s our walk of life.

It’s our walk of life.

My face is numb, it aint got no feel

There’s a pain down below, it’s a blistered heel!

The storm  clouds darken to my dislike

I seek shelter at the back of a drystane dyke

I coorie down close, dog’s havin’ a scratch

The zippo is bust, I ain’t got no match

The final insult, now my temper’s frayed

The pain & torture, the cigarette’s delayed.

Peat smoke drifting from a chimney stack

Snow blows over every  step of my track

Bent right over like a half shut knife

Trusty dog at my heel, it’s our walk of life.

It’s our walk of life.

I head off home, i’ve just about had enough,

The sheep are all fine, my the Blackies  are tough

The dog smells a rabbit, he doesn’t think twice,

Rather be home in his kennel where the straw is nice

A spring in my step, I almost reach a jog

With my faithful companion, my bonnie sheep dog.

Who would walk with me to the ends of the earth,

But would rather get back to that fireside hearth

Peat smoke drifting from a chimney stack

Snow blows over every  step of my track

Bent right over like a half shut knife

Trusty dog at my heel, it’s our walk of life.

It’s our walk of life.

Yeah!  I think that's great.  I can relate.  I see the image through the shepherds gates.  The only thing I think is the first set of verses would make it best if they were in the intro and at the end, only.  Unless of course it was sung as an elvis song.   :)  But that's just me.
