The Empty Vessel

A door left open, a window left broken

a thick layer of dust disguising the rust

on a cigarette machine that was usually bust........anyway

The quiz-night ghosts

the lingering odour of Sunday roasts

echoes of toasts and drunken boasts

a dent in the door made by mein-host...........long ago

But now it's just an empty vessel

time has called and the dust has settled

no more health to drink or arms to wrestle

or hearts to sink when Hyde supplants Jekyll

the pumps no longer pump

the jukebox no longer jumps

all that's left is an empty vessel.......sunk.
