  1. How about Johnny Mercer, Ian Drury, Mike Barson of Madness and Don Mclean
  2. Hi Donna if you follow the link to my site you can find Spring Will Come. The GASC answered a question before from someone asking if judges can contact entrants. The thing is : the songs go through voting stages. A judge may really dig a song but get outvoted. On one of my critiques the judge gave me 10 in 2 sections. At the end of the contest any judge can ask the GASC to contact the entrant asking permission for their details to be forwarded to the judge. I expect the answer would be YESSSSS usually. Anyway it can happen so maybe it does. I'm glad that we won an HONOR AWARD because I can legitimately use their downloaded HONOR AWARD LOGO on my business cards and stationery. Good luck John PS . The full song can be found on www.alanlauris.com via the link on my site
  3. I have entered the GASC in the last few years and only been a finalist until last year, when I won an HONOR AWARD. I entered a song jointly written with ALAN LAURIS which won an HONOR AWARD in the FOLK'ACOUSTIC section. We were very pleased as the list of judges looks pretty prestigious. Also the entrants are predominantly from the US and CANADA, so any success was doubly sweet. There is nothing to stop any of the judges contacting an entrant if something clicks with them. I've been very impressed so far with their attitude and professionalism, and ben quite willing to pay the fee. If I'm not prepared to show a bit of confidence in my work, why should expect anyone-else to. Good luck if you go for it.
  4. Sometimes it may be down to what I call my poetic focal-length. There are always things going on that inspire me to write, but at times I'm too near or too far away from it for the poetic image to emerge. Once the subject is within a certain range of thought I can then write easily. But different subjects can require different focal lengths, like adjusting a camera lens to get something in focus.
  5. A little like Ozzy Osborne with a haircut !
  6. They look good. I'm a bit of a cheapskate, so I've only got the SONY MDR-V150 but they seem to work pretty well.
  7. Don't go all Toad on me Steve, I don't mean the songs are similar, I just mean the Frog song is a bit like 21st century scatting
  8. How original isn't this BUDINGDING FROG thing ? Do any of the older members remember GIMME DAT TING which was a novelty hit years ago GIMME DAT, GIMME DAT, GIMME GIMME GIMME DAT GIMME DAT TING, GIMME DAT, GIMME GIMME DAT GIMME DAT TING.........Blah blah blah well it's a bit like a frog !
  9. I think he may be having a WC FIELDS moment
  10. Most dangerous singing technique I have is opening my gob. Dangerous for everyone else that is !
  11. As a non-singer I found that recent series on the voice very interesting, Sunday nights. There was a fascinating bit where Trevor Horn was explaining the fleshing-out of voices, to add more oomph. He multi-layered Seal's voice 27 times to give a full sound on Kiss From A Rose. So he ended up as main vocal, backing vocal and chorus. !
  12. Hey Finn, You forget that we have a great many Geordies on TV and sometimes they sound like they are Norw-english to us down in Devon , anyway. Regards John
