Progress On The Violin

I made a video documenting my start on the violin. Progress is slow. I'm open to any advice from experienced violinists out there.

If you happen to be starting out, maybe there's a thing or two here that might help you.

The concept of a fretless stringed instrument unhinges me.  Anyone with the slightest mastery of playing near in tune notes earns my respect.

The sound of it in the beginning is enough to make a person quit...but I decided I wasn't going to until I had it down. I have the opportunity to be around some great fiddle players. I watch what they do. I tell myself that they did it, so can I.

Most teachers I hear recommend at least an hour a day practice. I haven't made that goal yet. I'm lucky if I can get two or three hours in per week. Sometimes I might skip a few days in between due to my schedule.... 

 

I keep telling myself it isn't a 5 or 6 string violin or a hurdy gurdy.
