Twitter Next Steps

Hi .gang

So you have built an initial loose audience based upon “Twitter first steps”. That got you a rough audience for your early posts, however most ongoing effort needs to go on engaging with the right audience and  getting them to become followers.

You also need to have clear purpose, an end goal that meets your needs of growing your fanbase.

  • Some tweets will focus on people finding you or re-finding you.
  • Some tweets engage with the people you find
  • Some tweets focus on engaging existing followers
  • Some tweets promote content on your other platforms (YouTube channel, blog, artist website)
  • Some tweets promote your mailing list
  • Some tweets promote your music or merch for sale
  • Some tweets are only about building buzz
  • Some posts support cross promotion allies

Many promotion tasks start with some research, build a list and then use that list. Many of the tasks above follow this plan.

  • Build a list of artists on twitter similar to you
  • Build a list of musicians (band members and session players) on Twitter who play with those artists
  • Build a list of music Bloggers on twitter interested in the genres you play
  • Build a list of hashtags used for your genre of music
  • Build a list for music in your town/city/state
  • Build lists of music magazines/radio programmes/TV programmes/DJs/Music journalists on twitter interested in your genre
  • Build a list of influencer followers
  • Build a list of your biggest supporters

This should get you started. Next post I will look at some examples
