Hello Everyone, 

My name is Sarah, but my performing name is Saraphina Michael. I am 23 years old and proudly from Tanzania in East Africa.  Like everyone here, music is a massive passion of mine. I have sung all of my life, starting at home, at church and at school. As I became a teen I realised I could hold a note, so I started to sing, and sing, and sing, and sing!

 

I moved to Dar Es Salaam (our former capital and biggest City) to study, and starting singing more and more. I topped up my University funds by singing at events. I entered a Karaoke competition and won it.

 

Then I got brave, very brave due to family circumstances. I entered Bongo Star Search, basically the X-Factor for Tanzania!  A show that is on national TV weekly in a similar format, a camp, a big hotel, live TV shows and public votes every week. We even have our own (female) Simon Cowell (or Madam as we call her). Anyway, I won it - just last year. I am proudly the current CHAMPION!

 

Since my win, I have had issues. Some with completing my education but also music wise. I have really struggled with management, with support. I am a novice and it is not easy without good support within the industry. But I am close, I am very close. (please God).

 

 

This is one of my fave covers, I even got a direct reply from Banky W himself on this one. I do have a decent profile and following in Tanzania but my Fan Base and getting impatient (and who can blame them), that I have not released anything yet. I now have FOUR songs close to release, all originals but obviously I cannot post here yet,

I am finalising things but I want to make some contacts not just in Africa but worldwide. I plan to travel to the UK and maybe USA in the next year. I feel at ease singing in English and my English word formation is good, I believe.

Thank you Anika, but I have a long way to go.

 

In Africa, even though it is a huge and tough show to win, it is just the beginning of the journey. There are no-multi million dollar recording deals or anything. But I am not complaining, this has given me a start and given me a good name and following at home. I am forever grateful.

 

However, a huge journey ahead. I need a huge amount of luck and help. Hopefully my passion and my voice can shine through!
