Do people still use forums?

Hello, I'm Gary. I'm 32. Originally Scottish but I live in Amsterdam

Recently decided to get back into songwriting after almost ten years.

Recently challenged myself to write five new songs (music and lyrics) by the end of November.

Currently have three down and two to go.  So deciding to procrastinate some more by going on to forums to see how other people cope with feeling like they have nothing to write about.

Hey Gary, welcome to the Songstuff family.

 

Generally less people use forums than used to, but it is more fashion than practicality. People use social media for things like critique and mix critique with engagement posts using work in progress, all really bad ideas. Especially Twitter! Forums are an early social media, and they are very well suited to some tasks. I could go on but I won’t bore you!

Welcome to Songstuff!  3 out of 5 is pretty dang good.  There are times when I can write a lyric with melody almost every other day. Not completing the whole song.. and sometimes it's weeks between creating something.  I think for me, being an emotional writer (up, down, or anything in between) makes the difference. I struggle when forcing a write and not too sure those are ever my best work. We have a challenge board here on Songstuff where @john lays out the parameters. That often has helped me step through those creative downtimes.  I also, sometimes  just go to my keyboard and studio system and just start playing and have broken through any block I have.
