I would also add:

 

1. You can learn from other songwriters.
   1. Talk to other songwriters about songwriting. When you do get advice, think about what is suggested and why the suggestion was made. Try not to dismiss advice out of hand.
   2. Giving critique to other songwriters will exercise all of your songwriting tools without the personal attachment you have to your own work. Plus you learn from their experience, because critique is a discussion and an exchange of ideas.
2. There are no songwriting rules. There are only choices and consequences.

Yeah ... all of us are writers ... and everything that we create is fiction.

 

You will never meet Your Audience, and they will never meet you.  (Do you know Stephen King's mailing address?  No fair using the Internet!)  But they will feel that you are speaking directly to them, and they will understand everything that you are saying.
