Cut-up Technique and Verbasizer

Recommended Posts

Hi

Cut-up technique is a technique used to build song lyrics by stimulating ideas based on randomised words and phrases, drawn from pieces of source text. One of the most famous creatives to regularly use Cut-up Technique, is David Bowie.

David liked the technique so much that David Bowie, Brian Eno and Ty Robert’s developed a software program, called Verbasizer. While that original Mac program is no longer available, a nice developer put together a website to emulate the original program (link below).

Try it out and let me know how you get on. If you follow the process through until you complete a song, post up your results!

Cheers

John
