Joel Senior - Soundcloud as a music streaming platform

Hi all!

 

New here and excited to get stuck in with all music related topics! I am a composer, guitarist (predominantly), bass player and producer, as well as a full-time teacher. To start with, how many here still use Soundcloud as a means for discovering new music?

 

I personally have been using it for years and still very active on it, and have discovered some amazing independent artists! Through the rise of larger streaming platforms though who are paying bigger bucks, it concerns me that Soundcloud is slipping under the radar, despite being able to interact, post, and respond to users' music within an instant.

 

What are your overall opinions of Soundcloud? Let's bring it back!

Welcome to Songstuff Joel!

 

You might get a better response to this if it was posted in the Musicians Lounge board. Members usually come to the Introduce Yourself board to welcome new members.

 

I like soundcloud and have an account, but struggle with it, just as I struggle with a whole bunch of old-style OMDs. The majority of site users are other artists, looking to promote their music more thn finding new listening. Because of that, there’s a lot of gaming the system by members, which is a shame. At the same time, because non-artist listeners are few and far between, it does little to benefit artists by helping them to build their genuine following. That’s just me though!
