Good old Vic.

I am shocked he didn't know the tune, though.

And I didn't enjoy his playing on this one - too much inappropriate messing about.

But a great tune. I used to have a favourite version of it from the '50s by an old gentleman called Al Gallodoro. Well he was a little younger back then. He's 93 right now. And still playing. Anyway... when I first heard his version of "Czardas" (the tune just butchered by Borge), I thought he was playing a violin... and then, no! - a button accordion... but it was just the semi-classical purity of his articulation on alto saxcophone. And as a consequence of just watching Borge bugger about with it, I immediately found myself a replacement on-line of that old Al Gallodoro recording.

So thanks, Steve, for the impetus.

I'll copy some of it for you.

I'm surprised he didn't know the tune, although I wasn't a fan of his interpretation either—it seemed too inappropriate for such a great piece. I used to love a '50s version by Al Gallodoro, who's still playing at 93! His rendition of 'Czardas' on alto saxophone had such semi-classical purity, unlike Borge's playful take.
