Welcome to Songstuff. Drop by the Introduce yourself board and tell us a little about you. :)

Thanks for the suggestion - I left a note up there!

How do you rate the Mackie?

I can't complain about it - I've had it for about 6 years without any problems. It's a pretty versatile board - 16 channels - 10 with XLR / preamps. I hear the new Onyx boards (that replaced this line) are quite nice. I've used the pre-amps a few times to record vox and accoustic guitar before I got a dedicated unit to go directly into the soundcard - fairly clean. I don't use the EQ on the board, so can't really rate that objectively. But all in all, it's a nice little board and quite versatile for my needs.

Like I said, I just use it for monitoring my hardware synths and signal routing. I have everything hitting a patchbay before the board so, I record directly to the audio card rather than route through busses. Mixing, I do "in the box" and run through a stereo channel on the board.

Joe, so good to see you taking such an active and objective moderating roll on the board - very nice!

Hey

I've always liked Mackie gear when I've used it, but I've never owned any.

I use my desk in a very similar way to yourself. The EQ section doesn't really see any usage at all. I did think about investing in a good Focusrite channel strip, but so much of what I do is now inside the PC, and I would really be paying more or less to get the preamps. I'm happy that I can generally geta a good quality sound so it's never been a priority.

A brand new yamaha MG16/4, bought 2 months ago and I love it. Its got glowey buttons and nice fader action. Technical wise its very low noise, phantom power and all the inputs and outputs i would ever need, the only drawback being no sweepable midrange. I used to use a fostex fd-8 but it started making weird crackly noises every time i turned it on. That was an ok mixer but this one is miles ahead.
