Hi John,

The funny thing, until now, is that there's not any money to be made, as all reports have shown. The only one breaking even are Apple, *because* they sell hardware. The "software" (music) does not pay for the costs.

A few years late, the music industry seems to be in the "dot com" area. It's better to lose big money, than let others have market shares

any publisher will tell you that books on poetry at best can only break even..the real money is in after dinner speaches

convert that to music terms the real money is in merchandise..

If music don't bring money, I don't see the point in art.

How many of us here make money from our music? We do it because we want to. There is something inside us that made us sit down and learn our instruments, something compels us to write music and songs. If perchance we were to make some cash? That would be recognition beyond our dreams!.

Personally I think Didier hit the nail on the head. No one is quite sure what shape the new industry will take, so they're speculating on new markets. I guess the philosophy is that if you don't put your chips down you can't win anything.

Marc, I've been doing art (Music, pictures,writing) all my life, sometimes paid, sometimes not. Earning money does not define art, however it does define whether your art can make you a living!

I guess most artists are sick of hearing that art it is to stimulate the mind, it's about time it stimulated the artists wallet!
