Who's a good detective here?

Recommended Posts

Here's the scoop.

I received an e-mail this morning. This person (A&R) was contacting me about my music that they had run into on mp3.au. Heck, I forgot I even had a page there. Anyway, that music is somewhat old so I pointed this person to my up-to-date page at Ampcast.

Now, what I want to know, does this place look legitimate? Hell, anybody can pretend to be an A&R these days with the web.

What do you think?

HA! I found all sorts of garbage on this place. It pays not to be trusting!

I think Songstuff should put out a notice to watch out for this place.

Here's what was sent to me this morning. You will notice that it is a form letter that is mass e-mailed as I found many referrences to it in many BB's.

Regarding the materials on your web site.

I am interested in the materials on your site. Statue is a major

independent record company and would like to discuss the possibility of

releasing this material and doing some radio promotion on it.

If your record is available for licensing and distribution please contact

me at your earliest opportunity by sending me an email to

Here is a copy of just one of the many threads I found about this place.

Okay I got contacted by these jokers and at first thought WOW, but stopped myself from going overboard..A friend help me look up their references from the BBB and I also saw some of their "work" on soundclick. Apparently people are paying this "record company" to make cd's and cassettes for them..Anyhow, if that's what you are looking for great, but they make it sound like you have a cut... Here's what the BBB had to say about this company

We rate this company as having an unsatisfactory business performance

record.

One complainant alleges the CD's or cassettes were not delivered after paying the required fees for a " recording contract " . To date, this complaint remains unanswered.

We suggest careful evaluation of the offer. Most well known recording companies are in business to make a profit, thus they will only accept songs and music they feel they can successfully promote. Such companies do not charge you fees. You can obtain a list of recording companies and promoters from Billboard Magazine's International Buyers Guide, P.O. Box 2016, Lakewood, New Jersey 08701. Or call 800-344-7119.

I was contacted by the same mob back in mp3.com days. What a joke. I pity the poor suckers who fall for it.

Cheers

John

A blacklist should be compiled. People need to be warned of companies like this. If other music sites could be persuaded to cooperate, it might at least drive the offenders into pheonix mode.
