I agree 100% with what you're saying. And, it's not only how you stress syllables as you sing them that can sound unnatural. I often hear lyrics being sung that sound rhythmically unnatural because the word or phrase doesn't have the correct number of syllables to be a natural fit with the music. And sometimes it's quite annoying because there are other alternative words or phrases with the right number of syllables to make a natural fit with the music that could have been used to convey the exact same thing.
