  1. Hi Funk, Welcome from Portsmouth UK.
  2. Rudi

    Jan's Leg

Bewildered silent stare, followed by "how did that get there?"
  3. Ive never had to do this. It looks a simple enough guide. I'll give it a try if I come across this when mastering the current project.
  4. Hopefully Marks busy working at a melody driven song.
  5. [*]structure or song form (verse, chorus, verse, chorus, mid-8, chorus chorus etc.) 7 [*]rhyme schemes (ABAB etc) 3 [*]alliteration (She Sells Sea Shells) 5 [*]imagery (Oh the mountains and the sky oh... ) 3 [*]rhymes (same rhymes crop up across various lyrics) 3 [*]emotions (What, another sad song?) 6 [*]themes/story line (da bitch gone done it again) 2 [*]message (what you are actually saying with the lyric) 7 [*]type of hook (poignant, flippant etc) 4 I like to make the form fit the spontaneity of the idea(s). Sometimes it fits like a glove, other times its like a brick in a bowler hat. The former can sound a little twee if not done well. The later can sound great if you dont mind the hat going out of shape.

    Hey good link!

    Well Hi!

Welcome from Portsmouth UK What John said...
  8. Hello Alan, Nice to have another gigging muso on board. Look forward to seeing your stuff. Welcome from Portsmouth
  9. So do I. Got any tips?
  10. No it hasnt shaken my confidence at all. It has drawn lines around the relationship though. Perhaps I'm more bothered about that? You know, realising this is something that cant be shared with a loved one.
  11. Oh absolutley. But I would much rather have a negative reaction to what I got, which was sort of polite indifference. I felt I was being treated like a 4 year old who shows off his plasticine sculpture to a kindly aunt. "Oh ! Aren't you clever!" accompanied by a broad smile. Yes, she actually used those words! I'm not interested in impressing anyone. My fondest hope is that I may actually move someone. That might seem vain (in both senses of the word). Sometimes I think I might move more people if I took up driving a bus.

    Hi

Hi Nick, Welcome from Portsmouth UK Just ask if you dont see what you want on the boards
  13. I let someone close to me hear a draft recording I made of one of my songs. It was the 1st & only time anybody has heard the recording. The response was the most awful one I could have imagined. Some things just dont come across no matter how hard you work at it. Oh well, next time I'll choose someone else.

    Cheap Bass

I guess the best solution would be to plug it into a (digital or analog) tuner and check all strings at every fret. I personally am happy to live with a + / - 1/8th tone tolerance here and there. I find the bass harder to tune by ear. When plugged into the (guitar) tuner the note 'wobbles' by about an 1/8th anyway (if I strike it too hard).

Donna, I checked the intonation by ear. I start with striking the harmonic at he 12th fret, and then striking the fretted (12th) note. If they sound the same, they are. Do this for all strings. However, not many 'proper' bassists go that high do they? Rob Wasserman is an exception. The squier is surprisingly good quality for such a cheap model. Its made in China. Hari, I would love to see more of your work of this sort. How about a dedicated thread to it? Or on a blog here even?
  17. I've been to the Liskeard Trago. Massive. Will go again in Sept.

    Sitting To Play

I usually use my right knee, because I dont twist my spine that way. I use the left knee sparingly & only when I have to. Ie: when playing low E, A, D past the 12th fret (or 7th fret on the Spanish).

    Cheap Bass

Its been great so far. Intonation is spot on & I have beeen able to use it straight out of the box without a set it up. Now if I could only think like a bassist. Disipline.... disipline...
  20. Yes I had the redirect also. Had to keep hitting the back button to see anything. Why do they do that?
  21. Welcome to SongStuff Brian, Sounds as if you might be looking for a software package of some sort. Rudi Portsmouth UK
  22. I do like the Maple leaf one & the Eclipse one is wonderful. The (1st) vine one isnt bad, but like John, I think that might throw me off concentration The dancing bear one is one of the Grateful Dead icons and appeared on the cover of the 'Bear's Choice' (Bear was Owsley Stanley, the bands patron and sound system designer) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owsley_Stanley
  23. This is way out of my field but I imagine any midi keyboard would permit imported midi sounds. Our keyboard player has a box of sounds he cables into his Rowland.
