  1. I agree that you cannot release to much material, however the material you do release needs to be aimed at a particular market. You should not just release something just to release it that is counter productive when it comes to selling you music. If you goal is to sell you music then you should be very selective about what you release and who you release it to. Since everything you release is a reflection on your business you have to be aware that if you release a garbage song then that could reflect back on your business and shut you down. People will tell more people about your bad song than they ever will about a great song. So you have to make sure what ever you put out is great. Also you have to make sure you don't put stuff out so quickly that you don't give the prior release a chance to gain you some momentum in your target market. So with that said just make sure what ever you release does not hender what you plan on doing in the market place!! Tyjon Hunter
  2. Great topic, I agree that making money in the traditonal since of the music business is all but impossible. However luckily since the internet has been around it is much easier for people to carve out a niche or a sub niche and make good money. Although as an independent you may not make millions of dollars you can certainly do very well for yourself. Best of all you can keep creative control of your music. The record label are not stupid since they no longer make the kind of money they use to with physical album sales they do their best to lock you up in contracts if you don't produce for them right away. So the best thing to do is not get caught up in the hype of thinking you are going to be the next lady Gaga unless you are ready to open yourself up to getting your creative control taken from you and potentially setting on the shelf never to be released. There are tons of way as an independent you can make money, but ultimately you want to build an asset of list of people who support you projects and keep that list growing by engaing those people over and over again. When you can do this you can not only promote your own music but you can promote other peoples projects an make money in a partnership deal. It is all about being creative. If you build a list of local followers you can promote local clubs and make money that way. It really just depends on who your list is and how you want to promote yourself. Tyjon Hunter
  3. There are tons of affordable ways to promote your music online today. Since the advent of personal mp3 devices and the demand of people to only buy the songs they like. The technology has come to the point that it is finally affordable by just about anyone. As far as distribution it really all depends on the market you plan on reaching. If you plan is to sell you music to everyone then you have a long and expensive road ahead of you. If you are an independent artist or label then you should just rethink your marketing goal of selling to everyone. No matter how good you or your artist is there is no way you can reach the masses on a small budget and even if you did people are not going to buy something just because you had the money to get a message in front of them. You have to target the right people and only sell to those who are most likely to buy it. Online makes this easy because there are so many niche markets out there for every genre of music. With that mind just know that although you can distribute your music on sites like sound click, itunes, etc. If you are not targeting the people with the right message no one is going to buy what you selling.
