  2. Thank you guys!!! This is the type of information that I needed. As you can see, I am not a 10 year old. I am a middle - aged woman with a somewhat demanding career and even more demanding kids. My career is obviously waaaaay outside of the world of music. This is why I'm sticking my neck out on this website. It's time for me to find my way back to my music. Again I thank you for your time.

I'm with you Newbie. Let us know if you find a solution to what you are looking for. We can all look at the lyrics, but we have no idea how it fits with the melody that is in you head. I'm sure it fits together fine when you sing it. Right? IJS. I know I'm late chiming in. Did you find someone to collaborate with?
  4. I posted a question about notation software and got blasted for not thinking. I learned very quickly that maybe notation software was too much for my needs. So let me try this a different way. What equipment do I need to record the basics? Let's say I'm a 10 year old, I made up my own song (vocals, guitars, piano, drums) and I want my friends to hear it. What type of equipment would I have? I said 10 year old so that you would be able to get an idea of the experience level I'm talking about :-0 I'm looking for something a tad more sophisticated than a tape recorder. I can pick out melodies and harmonies with a single finger on a piano. I have lyrics and I can sing. I also have a PC. I browsed through some on the forums and most information seems very technical. Any suggestions to point me in the right direction. Please. Without fussing at me.
  5. Thanks guys. I'll be sure to add you to the credits in my first album ;-)
  6. Thank you for the suggestions. Seems like recording is the key. Basic recording software, huh. I guess I did not express myself correctly. I have a piano. I can pick out notes with one finger. That's it. My instrument is my voice. I am a singer. At this very moment, I have this awesome song in my head. No one knows it because they can't hear it. I can sing my melody with my wonderful lyrics. You cant hear the piano, the guitars or the drums. How do I get that music out of my head? Do you just talk to other musicians and hum their parts to them? This is why I thought software was the only way. HoboSage mentioned that I could "sing into a tape recorder" which is probably closer to reality at this point. Then what? I have this image of walking up to a guitar player saying, now your part goes Bererereeeeer. :-)
  7. I'm completely new to the world of songwriting. I am a former singer and I played piano for 10 years of my life. I don't pretend to know how to write notes on staff paper. With all of that said. HELP!! How do I get the music out of my head? I assume that software is the way to go for me. Can anyone suggest a fail safe software. I have the free trial of Finale. The reviews claim that is easy. Really?! I am still able to pick out tunes on a piano but writing key signatures, getting the rhythm correct, etc. is too much. I know other people writing music that don't have half the musical experience that I have. How are they doing this? What am I missing?
