  1. Hi Dave You mean that Steinberg software was...pirated!!? Surely not. What can the world be coming to! Cheers John
  2. Hi In terms of production, what's your favourite album? It's a tough question, but hey... For me there are of course many candidates. I think I'll suggest Radio Head, Ok Computer though. Just for shear density of ideas. When you listen hard (well not that hard) you can hear a lot of the edits. Som I am sure are intentional, others are more dubious. Although clicks and smooth fade ins improve quality of the mix, they can interfere with the creative flow. Cheers John
  3. Can anyone recommend a good starting point? I've been playing guitar for more than twenty years and I still haven't got round to it. I figured I'd ask and see if anyone had any pointers...
  4. Hi It depends on if I want to capture the sound of the room the kit is in, and how much control over the individual drums I want. If I want maximum control over the levels I let the kit mikes do the job. john

  7. Hi I thought someone might have some recommendations for Mike placement with the aim of reducing spill and capturing the sound of the kit. What mikes, placement damping, EQ etc. Cheers John
  8. Hi Just thought I'd see what site users thought about the Steinberg buy out. Concerned, happy? You tell me... Cheers John

  11. Hi Have you cecked out the MOTU site and user groups? I'd be surprised if there were any major issues. Check and see if the MOTU card in question has an available WND driver. Unless it's an old card it probably will. This is important if you want the card to work with a minimum latency. What OS are you using? Cheers John

  15. Hi I'm thinking of getting a second hand sampler to add to my studio. 1. What are the benefits of / trade offs between the various Akai samplers? 2. What are common faults that I need to keep an eye out for and how can I check for them? Cheers
  16. Hi What is the best way to record an acoustic guitar? I want to preserve the character of the guitar as best as possible. So what type of mikes and positions should I use? Should I compensate for any particular ranges in terms of EQ and am I likely to need some compression?
  17. Hi Go on! someone must be able to tell me if it's worth upgrading. John

Hi Can anyone recommend a good PC based S2000 editor? Right now even a software sampler that emulates an S2000 would be good. Can they read S2000 disks?
  20. Hi The new patches have sorted most of the problems out. Thanks. Has anyone tried Sonar 2? Is it worth the upgrade? John

  22. Have been given a written copy of the contract yet?
  23. I have a new version of Sonar and have noticed a bug when using soft synths. It seems to stall a lot and it seems to play notes not on the track. Does anyone know what might be wrong?
