    Akai Links

Hi Have you checked out the songstuff Akai links? Any suggestions? Comments? Cheers John
  7. Hi Rod I use Sonar 1.x. Th first release was a little buggy, particularly with softsynths. Not exactly intuitive how you use them. The patches fixed most bugs. I haven't tried 2.0 yet, but I hear it's pretty good. I'm a long time cakewalk user, and I did like most of the feature adds from cakewalk 8 (the previous version I used). All in all I'm quite happy... Cheers John

    Question

    Thanks Nightwolf...
  12. Hi Guess the one who got me first was Jimmy Page, followed closely by Paul Kossof and Stephen Stills. Hendrix was probably the most influential in the early days of my playing. It was so loose and flowing. After that I got more into songwriting and the focus of guitar playing changed quite alot. The styles I tend to play now are varied but I can see some element of the early influences on my own established guitar style. Not much, but some. In fact, I tend to mainly play acoustic guitar now so there's not much chance for Crosstown Traffic to creep in! So, what's your story? Cheers John

    Question

Hi I was thinking of moving the news section contents onto the main page, instead of on a page of it's own. Got an opinion? Cheers John
  14. Hi david Excellent! I look forward to hearing your first tracks with it! Cheers John
  15. Hey GFB I've not tried VST instruments, and experienced problems with DXi when I first got Sonar. What problem are you seeing? Cheers John
  16. Hi Tom I just thought I'd ask you if you found the articles useful? Is there anything missing? Something I could have added that would help? Cheers John

    Buy Guitar FX...

    Hi Didier Thanks! John
  19. Hey Tom Do you perform a spectral analysis on the finished track before applying final mix compression? Basically, apart from carefully applying any compression to individual tracks the mix can cause spikes at particular frequencies. You need to identify these peaks (Use Wavelab or similar). Before you get to this stage you should plan your mix and apply EQ so that instruments fit into a known frequency range. This way you can manage the mix better and reduce the amount of unforeseen peaks. Overall this means that the instruments in the mix will have better clarity and separation, without necessarily boosting their overall volume. there's an article in the features section on EQ, and compression and an EQ reference giving some suggestions on different instruments and frequency ranges. Hope this helps, or at least starts you off... Cheers John
  20. Hi Tom I would have to say I'm really happy with my NT2. Well worth a look and not too expensive. I've been using it for about a year. The vocals on Miserable Girl were recorded with it www.mp3.com/BibiM if that's any use. Cheers John
  21. Whish you were here, and Crime of the Century.
  22. I haven't played a gig in a while. Missing it lots... John
  23. I knew a guy who had a Black Panther kit, and he wouldn't shut up about it. When we went to local gigs we would take bets on how long it would take for 'Richie' to introduce himself to the drummer. Usually within a few sentences he would mention that he had a 'Ludwig Black Panther'. Sad really. Cheers John
  24. Hi TheOne Producers can be such a difficult lot Surely they must have a fair idea of the tempo? I know they like to have control but..... Cheers John
  25. Hi I used to use Cubase years ago on my old Atari, I then converted to using Cakewalk and haven't looked back. I wondered if any of you were more recent converts, moving on to Sonar, and what you thought of Sonar in comparison to Cubase. Why did you change over and what were the big changes that took a while to get your head around. Cheers John
