My excuse is that I am not a very method-focused-kind of writer. Most of the time I don't conciously use any other method than sit and play, try out things, recording what sounds cool and throwing away what doesn't. My usual way of getting a lyric started is to holler pseudo-english into a microphone for half an hour and see what cool words I come up with. Might not be what you learn at the academy, but it Shure (sic. & pun intended) works for me.

Honestly, I haven't The Faintest Idea of what it is. Never even heard or read the word, I think. Allthough it kinda reminds me of the millitary, dunno why. I demand an explanation! ...

(I'm not even gonna google it - I'm want to savor the answer I get here ... )

Very good post from John here - I would like to add some general advice: think less, listen and feel more. Read it aloud, record it and play it back - how does it feel? What does it say? If it feels off - try something else. Creativity is not like solving second-grade equations - there are no rules, only conventions which you are free to break. The challenge is to invoke emotion in the receiver. If you can make someone laugh, cry, smile, get angry, ... feel something - you know it is a good lyric.
Crying or laughing of your own lyric is usually a good sign - happened to me only a couple of times, but when it does it is great ...

What is the normal wholesale pricing and terms for the US? I have been contacted by a distributor wanting to stock Testament.

There's only one way, I'm afraid. Don't use it at all.
If it lingers, contact the doctor - there might be a serious problem.

I was around 35 when I found a good control of my voice. I'm sure more rehearsals would have helped me reach it sooner - it was systematic scale rehearsals that helped me. Boring stuff: scales 3 times a week.
-
You can do scale rehearsals and gradually push your voice up the odd note or two - don't expect miracles like an octave, but you should be able to add a couple of notes. Be careful not to overdo it and ruin your voice. 40 minutes a day 3 times a week is enough.

1: better firewire/usb soundcard (external)
2: 2 more gigs of ram
3: A couple of active reference monitors
4: A a proper large membrane mic (allthough many use a shure sm57 for most everything)
5: UAD card + plugins
For your music application I would get as noiseless videocard as possible - i.e. something crappy.
Allways connect directly to the soundcard when recording - it will save you the added background noise of the mixer. Most home studios these days don't even need a mixer (allthough I use one for monitoring purposes).
These are my opinions only, of course ...

try +2.5db at 2khz and +2.5 db at 12khz - boost a bit at 200-300 hz as well - cutoff at 150
2khz for clarity (most speech information lies here)
12khz for air.
200-300hz for body
If you can get your hands on a LA2A compressor plugin and a pultec eq plugin, you will find it almost magically brings some color and presence to the vocals.

Must be Chris Squire (Yes) "The Fish" - he's got a very characteristic bass sound and this song is mainly built up of bass structures.

I believe it is in the publishers rights to dictate the terms of the adaptation - so it is really down to whether you believe this will benefit the royalties of your album as whole. Also remember that you nevertheless are entitled to the revenue of the mechanical rights. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royalties#Mechanical_royalties
My gut feeling is that you should accept.
