What you put in the mouth also matters a lot. Never drink milk or anything with milk in it before you sing. Also - ease up on the coffee ... When singing I only drink water.

Some freebies here you could try first: http://www.wavosaur.com/vst/amp-sim-plugins.php (let us know how they work for you).

A method I use all the time is to sing the song in jabberish-singing. I do this some times, and often it results in both cool melody variations and text hooks. Then, when I get the text hooks in, I start breaking out the story - often in a conceptual way first. A lot of this happens off-paper/keyboard/tape while I sleep/bicycle/bus. Then it's a lot of rewriting as Mike says.

Actually, when producing - small tempo changes (2-5 bpm) throughout the song can really make difference.

Slow week this week - gonna put out some more effort into it next week. Need to re-do some badly recorded classical guitar, which put me down a bit. I have a bit of a self-confidence struggle with the mix now - which I'm not used to, but getting over it.
-
UPDATE: I got the UAD2 card with plugins and quickly became addicted. Can't live without, now.

Hi people. I could use some more ears on the mix of my next album. It's a progrock conceptual album and the story is the modern creation story starting with Big Bang. If you are interested in helping me with the mix, please send me a PM and we'll take it from there. I have a closed server with the mixes and commenting on that you will need access to (I don't wanna have too many pre-mixes out in the wild).

Snowbound - Genesis (...and then they were three ...)

Record sales are directly related to exposure to media and distribution saturation.
There are a couple of different variables there:
- Concerts
- Radio Play (how to get radio play? Send CDs around and sit on the phone)
- Magazine interviews (see Radio Play note)
- Appearances on popular shows
- Scandals (all PR is good PR)
- ... you can probably think of even more ...
To get distribution, the record store CD buyers already need to have heard about you, so you need to take into account pre- and postdistribution PR campains. A hit is always helpful, since it means more radio play. There will also be a certain "Word of mouth" variable into account.
Now - go buy my CD: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/finnarild

I think it is similar, but I don't know if it is Roland who has it. The Roland VG-99 works great!
-
This is where I love the VG99 - retuning at the touch of a button.

The Guaranteed Eternal Sanctuary Man - Genesis (Lamb)

I did my dues already.

Man on the Corner - Genesis (Abacab)

Match of the Day - Genesis (Spot the Pigeon)

I think my lyrics tend to have rather varied - but in the later years I shy away from love lyrics, mostly because it has been so thoroughly done through the years that I feel there is very little new I could bring to it. And I do want and try to be original. I often get lyrics/story/concept ideas late at night before I go to sleep. I used to have a book beside my bed that I scribbled stuff into, now I use the audio recorder on my mobile phone.
For me, lyrics are real hard work and I very often get very good help from my wife to finish stuff.

I liked no 2 and 4 the best (the right ones). The others seemed a bit cluttered and hard to figure out. Remember that people often only have a second to be interested and get the message in the poster when driving by in a car. I liked 2 a lot, actually - neat backdrop.
