  1. Hello Today's Tiny Tune Challenge is to write a little tune about using the phrase or affirmation "Right &/or Wrong" Tiny Tunes, as the name suggests, are mini-songs made to begin a musical narrative and conclude within the timeframe of 30 to 60 seconds. It can also be seen as an opportunity to journal the moment & its story using melodies & words. Join the club! You can post your finished Tiny Tune here! Looking forward to seeing what you will come up with!
  2. I listen to music while I'm working ALL the time. In fact, I have a Songstuff meeting to attend in less than 20 and I'm working away listening to Gregory Porter beautifully singing "Painted on Canvas". Weirdly enough, it helps me focus on my work (unless directly music-related as John mentioned) a lot more! Now, it's true that one cannot multitask. You cannot listen to all that is happening in the music while you are focused on another task. But personally, I'm not listening to any of those from an analytical point of view; I'm just listening. Without purpose. Just giving the beautiful piece a lil warm company In one sense, it just makes me feel better and less angsty about the task however daunting when I can have a lil John Mayer or Norah Jones or Novo Amor in the background. Ooof, I wouldn't mind some Nocturnes by Chopin in there too! In another sense, I've observed particularly with my OCD that it's harder to focus when a lot of things are happening at the same time. The stress of multi tasking always feels multiplied to me because of it. The right kind of music that catches my awareness' gaze tends to keep the sails steady taking me thru its fascinating story and thus has a compounding effect on my focus with the other tasks being done. Obviously, as you can see, specific musical situations can be taken to advantage. But honestly, whether it's quiet or with the music on, if the mind is screaming without control, it is always best to not fight with it and follow what works for you best.
  3. I started writing Tiny Tunes during the pandemic so that's definitely something new. The lockdown period pushed me to open up with my expression and be more spontaneous. It makes sense since I felt like there was so much going on inside of me during that time and I just couldn't bottle it up! It also helped me bring new perspectives into songs I'd already written and added further context to the upcoming record that I'm working on titled "Change". So yeah, amidst the muck that this pandemic was, it looks like it was useful in some ways of growth!
  4. Thank you so much for the listen and the kind words Clay! The Beatles' reference is such a huge compliment. Thank you for that. I've taught about having singers backing me up for so long. It's something I should really start working on this year. At least if I can have two more singers for my live sets, it would be such an interesting musical space to perform at. Thanks once again for the love!
  5. With the new release activities in full motion, I realized how much I've worn myself out right at the beginning of the year. With classes through the day taking a significant amount of physical and mental energy, my OCD mind has been overwhelmed lately with so much to do - website, social media, recording, demos, mailing list, Songstuff, music production. I'm not exactly complaining since I do this full time and pretty much signed up for all that being a musician entails. But I need to do that while learning how to slow down. Time to get back to a Tiny Tune routine soon. Hopefully.
  6. Damn! That's quite the news indeed! I wonder if they are going to innovate with the platform; particularly bringing more independent music into the gaming platform for licensing opportunities etc. At least one can hope lol
  7. The new journey and EP cycle has finally begun with this new release. Change EP has been in plans for a while now. The pandemic had its ways of slowing things down but there's also been a lot of developments over that period such as getting an artist grant by a few music foundations, some potentially consequential production crew/cast coming in to work on the record along with all the plans we've been looking at from our record label RC7 Records' point of view with @john & @Peggy. But this release is merely the first step or a pre-cursor to what is on the way with the EP. This performance was recorded at sunrise deep in the little forest reserve in the neighbourhood where I grew up. In many ways, it is about the place being a constant when everything was not. When I moved out by the end of last year, I had a feeling of being self ostracised in a way. It's wild how much you can find identity in the place you live in, especially when you live there for a long long time. That's why I wanted to record this song there. It was very personal. A lot of work went into it and I'm proud of the progress that we make with each release. The planning for the release campaign done with the label (myself, @john & @Peggy) has been very hopeful & positive. Since Feb 2nd when the pre-release campaign began, we've managed to have a reach of 100,000 impressions with over 40k accounts reached on various social media platforms through the teasers and other posts done for it. That's insane given it's all in house and self executed by us. So happy to have the support of this community through its knowledge & its people helping me stay steady on the ride of my most favourite journey - music. With that, I wanted to share with you my latest live video release "Realize - Live at Her Village". But it's perfect the way it is coz that's exactly what the song is about - to be in the moment. So I'd like to share this moment from the super special live stream a few days ago in all its unadulterated glory. Also, those who've caught me live would know that I tend to talk a little bit about the song if I feel like it on stage. I know some don't appreciate it sometimes. But I've been fortunate to have my listeners and fans who've always made me feel accepted as more than an entertainer; & for giving me a space to have a personal conversation with them.
  9. Thank you for that. I would urge for you to write them songs anyways. Finish it. I remember writing a lot of crap out of my system before I found my way around my own songwriting process. As much as it feels new every time you sit to write, you'll find same nuances within the task. Like understanding the rhyming structure and how it is sitting with the groove I'm trying to emulate on the guitar. It's a fun puzzle to solve each time for me. Then there's how the story within the lyrics fit with the song structure. If there's something plot-twisty building in my head, I know I can anticipate that to highlight itself in the bridge section of the song. I would ask you to engage yourself in such side missions each time you sit for writing something. And you'll start using it more as part of your regular process. This is exactly why I would ask you to finish the songs even if you choose to dispose of it. Thanks again for taking time time to listen!
  10. You put it so well into words John! When it comes to Tiny Tunes as a songwriting process, it has always been the path of least resistance in the interest of time. I record the clip to be shared on the same sitting, right after it is finished. Because of this, I'm implored to let go of expectations and allow myself to express of whatever with whatever skills I've in the moment. I'm not always great with it lol But that's exactly been the motivation to do it more and get better at it. Which has been an incredibly productive as far as the learning is concerned.
  11. That's humbling to hear! Thank you brother. I hope to do vlogs relating to the things that go on behind the process. But given the amount of work I'm trying to bring about, especially with the upcoming release, it's been quite a stressful ride.
  12. @Stuart Scholes, I can resonate with that so much despite not sharing the exact background. For me, the idea of making music when younger was very goal oriented - of sound, skill & success. But years into doing this, music making has become an activity of journaling my mind (going inward into yourself) and expressing/resonating out to the world. I see what the song does out there in the world like its one of my kids. lol I don't have any hard feelings once I've done my part for it and it's out there. (I try lol)
  13. I couldn't do a lot of writing over the past week because of all the release tasks fighting with lots of classes and other work. I did write a new tiny tune called The Quiet Dance. .embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; } I'm not doing this anymore I'm tired of everything the way it is Maybe it's a good thing to feel a little change But I'm scared it's all the same Who cares about the world.. When you only feel what's stuck to your skin? I need a little space to take it all in Dancing to the sounds of the silence There will be a now for my truth I'll rise above the clouds when I'm done fighting But I'm not doing this anymore
  14. COMPLETELY AGREED. Fair enough.
  15. I can understand that. I know sometimes it can be very difficult to agree with some of the kind of guests he brings on. But people like Alex (of whom I share similar sentiments) included are highly influential people already, whether someone likes it or not. And in such situations, dialogue can serve as the more useful option than no dialogue at all.
  16. I must say I've been guilty of those terms being interchangeably myself. And for what it's worth, I agree with you. Rehearsing a song seems more appropriate as opposed to practicing a song. Though I must say, these days the line between the two has gotten blurrier and blurrier. I have OCD. So it means that when I'm recording something, I need to get the take absolutely right. That means my recording sessions last for hours, non-stop. I used to think of it negatively. But lately, I've been looking at it as a practice of applying vocal technique in live performance situations. So I don't mind sitting through those 300 takes. However, I must say when I'm prepping for a gig, I never do anything beyond playing it a couple times after running through specific parts or changes prior. Rehearsing it is!
  17. Here's something I wrote recently. I'll let you know it's quite a rough demo and from the night I wrote it. Change, you're always on the corner of my mindAnd even though I know I'll never find youI keep trying nonetheless without a blameAnd maybe, I'll see you in a different state of mindBut who knows how long it stays the kindof life that we'd never wanna change We're falling into our own lives With no control, so hold on tight
  18. That sounds ominously beautiful @Steve Mueske! Oh man, you're so good with soundscapes. I could totally hear sounds like this on an epic Adele track! Really looking to see where this will progress!
  19. Oh man. That sounds beautiful bud. Such a Damien Rice vibe from when he isn't whining lol (I LOVE Damo!) like the song Trusty & True. Very heartfelt bud. Looking forward to seeing where this will go. The guitars sound beautiful btw.
  20. I do believe that an open discussion helps. Especially with agreeing what the science is and what the science is not with these things. Leaving all the conspiracies on both sides aside, until people cannot come to the common ground for truth as truth is defined, there will be such friction. As it is a global health related situation, the voices of the scientific minds who positively affect it(which both sides want ) should not be lost. Honestly, I feel bad for the science community AS A WHOLE for them not being able to come together in amplifying their view and their voice being hijacked for whatsoever reason. Regardless of stance, it does ultimately come down to the smartest minds on the planet in these fields doing what they need to do to save lives whether its a pandemic or anything else that has threatened our lives in centuries of humanity. As for Joe, I'm glad Spotify didn't take the podcast down. That doesn't serve the purpose and aggravates the situation away from the opportunity of discussion. But I'm SOOOO glad Neil and Joni and the rest raised their voices anyways. That surely did help the purpose. God bless 'em. I'm finally glad Joe decided to address it by saying that he will bring in a more balanced conversation in his show to allow people to see both sides even if its controversial. I appreciate that. He's cool!
  21. I completely agree with that statement. It's highly impossible to recreate a sound from any record unless done with the same circumstances of recording & production. In cases beyond mastering, reference tracks are a good way to better understand what your ears maybe looking for. For example, a huge part of my sense of musicality comes from broad pallet of music that I constantly consume. If I'm trying to find a certain kick sound for a beat, I would go to a song that I can relate to in alignment with what I'm writing; at least to understand what about that kick that makes it soo good if not the nature of its tone & the nuances. It may not necessarily be to sound like it but sometimes to extract the thought process & understanding that's gone into the production. This is at least how I use reference tracks. Merely as a way to bring about valid questions to ask & decision making in my creative process that can help with progress. When it comes to reference tracks, I've personally seen/met a good number of people who fall in both categories - those who use it and those who don't. So I think it's just a taste thing in terms of how they handle their creative process.
  22. You couldn't have said it better bud. I do believe that many do misunderstand the use of it. Not that everybody has to use it. But those who do use it need to understand how it can actually be useful to the process.
  23. A Silent Night Silent Night, holy night as the fire burns through the pyre we'll be strong for the one who is tired to breathe & long for a day that is kind But don't forget those who sleep Sleep in heavenly peace
  24. Alone (ft. Victoria Canal) What do I regret if everything feels the same? I don't feel like I wanna play the game Who wins for the loser to cry? And whose hurt compels you to lie? So I will be alone If it means love will remain By my side to tame the tides As I'm floating on in life..
