  1. So you are telling me that mid/side compression is used only in mastering?
  2. Hey guys, recently I've been looking into a bunch of mid/side things like this one. Do you use mid/side compression/eq? If you do, when does it work?
  3. Thanks guys! I'm spending time improving things. I won't try to sell this one, but the future is bright
  4. Of course, but it became a thoroughly different song though
  5. HI guys, I feel like letting you know that I got accepted in Glasgow Caledonian University. I'm taking an Audio Technology course.
  6. Here's a try https://soundcloud.com/misterpercy/firends-18/s-Xa2KD What do you think?
  7. https://soundcloud.com/misterpercy/friends Here it is.
  8. Thanks guys. Can I post a mix here when I try your advice in practice?
  9. Hello, I use Logic and my stereo spreader plugin looks like that. Can you guys give me some tips on what's good and what is wrong when widening a mix?
  10. Took a lot of time to learn that... About 5-6 hours of practice for a 20-second part.
  11. Sometimes I really hate myself for writing that song. That breakdown is impossible to play and sing at the same time. [media=]http://soundcloud.com/misterpercy/shadow How do you learn your songs (playing and singing at the same time)? Methods? Share them with me please
  12. Songs are a bit tricky because, personally, I can't write lyrics without singing. It's easier to not mess up with rythm and sounds. I start a song by singing absolute nonsense to my phone (when it comes to proper words and grammar). Then I sit down, track a little demo and start refining everything, trying to replace lyrics and music with sth meaningful. I usually keep my lyrics stored in my DAW project.
  13. This topic is such a pain. I'm making decisions this year. Studying music, recording.... I feel so confused when it comes to that money making thing. I've got ideas but everything seems so unclear that it's hard to plan ahead. My planning from a top view is: "I will undertake several huge risks and try to do smart things if I get enough publicity" Is there a marketing topic on the forum?
  14. Thank you! For an overview of what happened with my little facebook promotion: I got 60 likes in 1 week. Still one song to release at the next 20 like mark
  15. It's working quite well. I got 50+ likes for 2 days, so I released 2 songs. 2 more to come! http://soundcloud.com/misterpercy/sets/fictional-character-1/
  16. Thanks guys! After reading your posts I came up with an idea. I will make a video-post telling people that they will get a song based on the number of likes and shares the post has gotten. Something like "I will release a song on each 20-like-and-share mark" That has a giveaway character to it. Plus, it's a great way to advertise. What do you think?
  17. Hi guys, I got one too! Mister Percy: http://www.youtube.com/misterpercymusic
  18. What's the way to promote music in that viscinity? Let's discuss strategies here. I think one needs to take the time and produce quality music, record it nicely and then move on to video production and promotion. How is that done? My 1st step on that direction was making a trailer for my soon to be released EP - Fictional Character. [media=] I'll try to make a full-length music video and then post the hell out of my social network accounts. That's what I've come up with so far. Any other ideas?
  19. "It's a matter of preference. Both have all the capability that any competent sound engineer would need to create a broadcast quality product. " And I'm not limiting your selection. You should look up DAWs on google and see what suits your system.
  20. Prometheus, dо you mean that one needs to know how to master a song despite it's being sent to a mastering engineer?
  21. This is massive! Best of luck guys, your music is great.
  22. Yes,what I found is that Pro Tools is better at audio editing while Logic has tons of built-in instruments that make songwriting easier. Graham Cochrane from http://therecordingrevolution.com/ said that both DAWs can achieve the same results but each requires a completely different approach.
  23. I'm still learning and I don't have the money to pay for a mastering engineer. So - no. But I think that if you have spent the last 1-2 years or so working on a serious project, why not? Of course you'll be needing your songs to sound pristine.
  24. Hi there,it's been a while since I last posted. I'm a Logic guy but I constantly keep seeing pro musicians use Pro Tools. What's the difference?
