Recommended Posts

Dear Nigel,

I'm sorry you will be unable to join us at the 2004 International

Society of Poets' Summer Convention and Symposium in America's

Birthplace, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania--the largest and most prestigious

poetry event ever held. As you know, you were selected to be honored at

this event, and we were looking forward to your presenting your poetic

artistry in front of the more than 2000 poets from over 45 countries who

will be attending.

However, because we don't want you to miss out on this unique

opportunity altogether, we have arranged a way for you and your poetic

accomplishments to be a part of this event in a major way, without your

actually being present. Although you will be unable to participate in

the Convention contest (you must be present to win), you can receive all

of the awards and benefits of ISP membership we have scheduled for

you--including your custom engraved Outstanding Achievement in Poetry

Silver Award Bowl

haha ok here goes! they think they are all high and mighty with their "professional songwriters"....my a**! haha

As President of the Songwriters Guild of America, I'd like to invite

you

to come visit our new Web site at www.songwritersguild.com and peruse

our

services, for free, with a two-week pass. You’ll have access to our entire site,

including all services, from August 24th through September 7th.

The new site takes advantage of technology to bring our services to all

songwriters – regardless of where they reside. Some of our exciting,

upcoming opportunities include free song critiques by top, professional

songwriters (good through the next week) and three very special live

chat

events now through November. Chats will be held with Grammy-award

winning

songwriter, performer and pianist JOHN JARVIS; songwriter, performer

and

producer ADAM MITCHELL (well known for his work with the heavy metal

super

group Kiss) and, finally, with songwriter/performer PAM TILLIS – winner

of

the CMA for “Female Vocalist of the Year,” CMT’s “Video of the Year”

and a

Grammy.

We hope you will consider joining this important songwriter’s

organization.  I'd like nothing better than to welcome you to the ranks

of

what is, without question, the most prestigious songwriters group,

ever.

You've heard of songs like "What a Wonderful World," by Louis Armstrong

"It Was a Very Good Year," by Frank Sinatra, "Jail House Rock" by Elvis

Presley and more recently, songs like "Groovy Kind of Love," by Phil

Collins or the Dixie Chicks, "A Home." Well, our members wrote each of

them - and a thousand other number one hits as well.

We are home to America's most famous songwriters, yes, but we also do

our

part to foster the skills of up-and-coming writers. So, if you join us

as

an unpublished songwriter, we'll do our part to help move you to the

ranks

of published songsmiths.

To help unpublished writers achieve their dreams of success, we offer

regional and online workshops, critique sessions, forums and chats –

all

designed to help songwriters improve their skills. And, because we know

that it's just as important to new writers to get their work heard, we

offer regional opportunities for songwriters to perform their songs in

public and professional venues. For those whose work is ready, we even

have regional and online pitch opportunities to industry professionals

and

artists.

If you already count yourself among the talented and lucky few who have

published a song or two, the Guild offers an abundance of legal and

administrative services to make your life easier. We can track your

copyright creation and termination, audit publishers to make sure

you're

receiving your fair share of royalties, represent your interests on

Capitol Hill and even offer you and your family have health and life

insurance.

I've mentioned just a few of the many services we offer to published

and

yet-to-be published songwriters. You can find a more comprehensive list

at

our website at www.songwriterguild.com. You can also pose your

questions

to me directly in my “Ask the President” forum in the Writers’ Lounge

of

our Web site (use your free username and password over the next two

weeks:

the username is “special” and the password is “guest”).

Again, I invite you to join us at the Guild. We look forward to your

involvement in our events and activities.

Sincerely,

Rick Carnes

President, Songwriters Guild of America
