thin bridges

mister brunnel made fat bridges

spanning water from awkward ridges

they still look nice at twice the price

in the past, they were built to last

and now today theyre built to pay

bridges built the fiscal way

so when girders are slender

and they become elder

they need a welder

so we hire a mender

matters of maintenance urgency

are always someone elses emergency

so its best if we can delay

and sort it out another day

the builders have already had it away

our kids will do it

after all, we been through it

so why shouldn't they?

thin bridges look emaciated

is that why theyre unappreciated?

theyre just aerial traffic lanes

but to be fair, they take the strain

but no one hangs pictures of them

or mention them in scriptures often

but there was a phrase called civic pride

it means people enjoyed the ride

and if you care to take a look

youll find it in the history books

i like fat bridges
