If You Had To Choose One Guitar............

Recommended Posts

In between sessions yesterday, I decided to get my mind off of things by visiting several music stores in the area. I stopped in a Sam Ash, a Guitar Center, a Brook Mays Store and Fat Sound. Most of these places really push more beginner to middle ground gear as opposed to more boutique stuff like McInturffs, Suhrs, Zions, Bakers etc.

I had a chance to play a lot of guitars yesterday, Gibsons, Fenders, Godins, Schecters, Ibanezs, ESP's and it was uncanny to me that based on initial feel and set-up, playability and ergonomics, the time tested Fender designs just felt perfect in my hands. Mind you, I started my serious guitar period on Gibson Gear. So my question-If you had to pick one brand of guitar that almost always "just feels right" right out of the box, what would it be? (excluding the customs and boutique brands) We're talking about the mainstream stuff here. : )

Hi

For me it would be a guitar I used to have, a 1986 US Custom Gibson Les Paul white body with gold fittings.

It played beautifully, and sounded fantastic. I still miss it. :(

On the acoustic side, something from Taylor guitars would go down well...

On the custom side, I'd get a hand made custom guitar from Moon guitars.

Cheers

John

Accoustic ? not sure. They are better custom made ideally .

Electric: Ive played 2 Jackson Soloists. I missed out on buying the 1st, but bought the 2nd PDQ. They were both exceptional to handle.

The two I have, Fender Stratocaster (American) and Yamaha FG365SE electroacoustic - inexpensive but great action and tone. Other guitarists like my Yamaha too - it's 20 years old and well run in.

An older martin d28 or 35 as an acoustic

Electric I like Paul Reed Smith's mid priced line, never tryed the spendy ones and Carvins got some fine sounding and comfy feeling axes at resonable prices.

PRS, I'd love to have one, but can't justify (or come up with) the cost. I love my Ibanez'z

I am a big fan of the telecaster...Although its hard to fast noodle on it. I use my ESP for that....so a bit of both

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

any well constructed guitar can be setted up for fast noodlin', have you tried to low the strings a bit on the bridge or regulate the truss rod?
