Hi  :helpsmilie:

As most songwriters (I persume), I find it hard to label my Genre.

I have set up a poll (I'm new to this, please bear with me) to help me find out what Genre my music fall's into.  Please have a listen to a sampler of four of my song's at:

Thanks,

Dougie

Hello Dougie,

As I listen to your song, I'd have to agree with David ( HoboSage ) that you have a very Folk-Rockish feel to your record. You might probably have a little of country elements added in there. :) Let's see if others would agree. Voted! Great stuff btw man! Goodluck with the record.

Hi Mahesh, thanks for listening.  I need to google "folk rock" now it's been mentioned twice

As Rudi already indicated, the whole question of genre classification is a bit murky...at best. Honestly, I have difficulty categorizing most of my own material. That being said, I gave it a shot anyway & took your poll. Hope it helps a bit!

Best I could do was Indie / Folk / Acoustic.

- "Indie" was my first choice because it's about as vague as vague gets LOL. Honestly, it's beats me why it's even accepted as a genre category...never-the-less it seems to be these days.

- Given the textures, both "Acoustic & Folk" were obvious choices. But I thought I was picking up elements of Grunge in some of the melodies, as well as bits of Ragtime in some of the piano lines. Like most folks material, a real mixed bag of influences.

Since no one else asked, I will....exactly WHY are you asking? Is your curiosity related to contest categories, listing it for sale, making it available for spec call-outs from & song-pluggers/publishers ?  Depending on your intent, there may be additional benefit to labeling it one thing, vs. another.

Tom

Thanks for your reply Tom.  Its funny I heard grunge once mentioned before.  I've been recording demo's recently and the "indie" is more obvious I think.  Why? is a good question.  All of the above really but mainly to help build fitting content around the music and find out where to place it for sync, radio etc.
