and I thought Blue Chip picks were expensive

Recommended Posts

After best part of a year spent trying out (and reviewing) all sorts of picks, I have changed the picks I used for soloing.

But I find that I am wearing them out pretty quickly. I have tried to refurbish them, with very fine grade abrasive paper.
I start at about 1200 grit all the way down to 7000 or even 8000 grit.

So I web searched 'hard picks'. I found this one :o for $7500

Crazy Diamond indeed

If I sell my studio gear, amp and all my guitars I think I might be able to afford one.

I can only imagine what pops up in a search engine when the query is Hard Picks.

That's nothing, Rudi started with:

Very hard plucker

Hard plucking device

Stiff Picks for fast plucking

stiff pick for solo fast fingering

Hardest pick for solo plucker

being serious for a moment, the range of guitar picks is much broader than I thought. There really are some excellent picks out there.

For lead work, my favourite remains smooth beach stones. Whenever I am at a pebble beach I look for any plectrum shaped stones that have been had their edges smoothed. Bits of beach smoothed glass can work too. The result is an awesome pick that glides across strings.

Good thought.

A year ago, I would have thought that was bonkers. So it just goes to show, that I must be bonkers now too.

With all the picks I have bought this year I might have used the money to get another guitar. So was it a bad idea? No. This pick quest has bee far more useful than any another guitar could have been.
