Sound problem?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,
I've got this letter recently:

Quote

"The track sounds great! For what it's worth, over my larger studio monitors I'm picking up a nondescript low end rumbling on the choruses at 1:20-2:24 and 3:02-3:29. I can't tell if it's coming from the bass or rhythm parts. If you're listening over smaller speakers, you won't hear it."

Have anybody hear the same problems? Over my speakers everything is good...

First, let me say the song/performance is excellent.

You definitely have some low end issues. You just need to shape the low end with a high pass filter (somewhere between 30-50Hz). It is very rumbly - you have my subs jumping pretty good here.

Otherwise, the production is excellent.

Peace,

TC

Run it through a spectrum analyser. That should help visualise what you can’t hear.

As TC says, a high pass should make a huge difference. Unless you want to preserve some sub bass, I would set the cut off at 80 on your vocal channel. Low frequency rumble is a common issue, being picked from traffic etc through the mic stand. Bass drum you might roll off below 40
