New Music Friday #16

Recommended Posts

Emily messaged me that there was a problem with the cello. I discovered that the cello stems for this file were dual mono and I had assumed they were stereo (the second mono track was too low to hear). I have created a new render of the file at the reel linked below. I sent the previous version to Greg Reierson, who I consider a friend and possibly the best mastering engineer in the world, for feedback.

The corrected audio is now live (bearing in mind that Greg is providing feedback on a version that does not include the fixed files.) This is live, you know what I mean? Warts and all.

Holy crap. That reverb tail. 👌

If you’d just allow me one teeny suggestion…. the low cello sound that comes in around 2:05 could be turned down just slightly.

TY! There's still plenty to tweak, for sure. This is just my best take so far on how to make this work.

The tail is not actuality a reverb. It's a delay in which I'm modulating ratio and wet parameters with LFOs.

Okay its finally time for me to participate in NMF! since this thread is not really meant for 'critique, here is my love letter to @Steve Mueske. I hope that @Emily Quinn doesn't mind! 😅 (its a joke!)

This is not really a song, its just a snippet from a warm up session I recorded recently.

Just so there's no weirdness, we are not involved in any way except my producing and mixing her work. All of the music and instrumentation are hers (with one very small exception). I'm just trying to be an aural priest, to really dig in and listen, and to interpret to the best of my abilities.

Bill, I remember you sending me a very early version of this. I will listen and comment later.

I’m gonna have to f*ck around more with delay modulations. That trail after her “here” was delicious.

Hats off to your production skill.

This sounds good, @Steve Mueske! I'm glad the cello in the last chorus has been found, and I think the ending is working out very nicely. :)
