Entangled, by Genesis 1976

Recommended Posts

Genesis, an English rock band, released "Trick of the Tail" album in 1976.
The second track from this album - "Entangled".

"Entangled" originated from a piece by Steve Hackett that Tony Banks particularly liked and went on to write the chorus and closing synthesizer solo. Hackett also wrote the lyrics which Phil Collins thought had a Mary Poppins feel to them.

This song is dedicated to all music lovers of this world, peace and love to all peoples!!!

Nice one Rene.

Really suits your vocal range.  Good guitar interpretation/arrangement.

Great recording quality. I'd love to know your setup and process, e.g.  single or dual inputs, do you post-process with EQ/Compression/Reverb,  etc..

Also how many performance hats do you have/use? :)

Hi Greg,

Lovely compliments, and I love 'em!

I have a few hats that I use in my music room for recording, I just rotate them.

SET-UP:

Two mics, Shure SM-58 directed to guitar, Ear Trumpet Labs "Edwina" directed to vocals, both just out of camera coverage.

INTO - Yamaha MG10FX Mixer (using #6 room reverb)

INTO - UAD Volt 2/76 (love the built-in compressor and vintage mic preamp)

INTO - IMAC, I am using Quick Time Player to record a movie

-  No post-recording additions.

-  "Live Recording".

Thanks for your questions as well.

Rene

Love the overall 'room' sound that the Mixer is giving.

I'd buy one for myself based on your recording ... if I weren't almost falling off the end of Life's bell curve :)

Hi Greg,

Life's bell curve will not allow you to fall off.

Just do it, and enjoy it!!!

Thanks for the huge compliment, especially coming from you.

Respectfully,

Rene

Not a big Genesis fan although I loved Anthony Philips' solo stuff back in the 70's - 80's, but this is pretty cool. I don't know how you got an SM58 to sound non-boomy on acoustic but it's recording too.

Hi DM,

I am really surprised that this particular SM58 is doing so well, I had to sideline my SM57 and use this for my guitar.  I did not know this song, when I was asked to cover this.  And I did not know how complicated and complex the original recording (or I might have not covered this classic)

Love your comments!!!

Thank you!!!

Rene
