Hi Jontrell,

Welcome to Songstuff.  The Introduction board is still used, for sure. 😀

It's a great first place to say hi to the community and maybe tell us what your up to with your music or a little background,  goals maybe... what brings you here, that kind of stuff.

If you have in questions about the boards, just ask and we'll get you some answers.

See you around the boards.

Intros?

:)

Absolutely. Call me biased, but forums are still great for threaded discussion, better than most other social media. Each social media platform has pros and cons. They aren’t an evolution.

Social media platforms are excellent for social connection, navigating social connections. They are good for fairly basic, superficial interaction. Some are brilliant as marketing platforms. Several are brilliant for viral communication, simple idea transmission and growth of reach.

This makes social networks brilliant for meeting, simple exploration and discovery. That makes them ideal platforms for artists to reach listeners. Other connections too. There are many reasons why social platforms are idea for engaging fans. There are plenty of other just as good reasons why writers and artists should not be dissecting their songs, sharing works in progress on social platforms… in fact be doing anything “behind the scenes” activities in such a front-of-house place. For so, so many good reasons.

Few platforms are any good at all as repositories for knowledge. They are generally terrible for the recovery of information unless it is extracted very soon after creation. Almost immediately. That means where topic information is created, it has to be harvested right away and stored somewhere else (between your ears, or a document, or… a forum), if it is going to remain useful.

Forums are great platforms for mining a seam. Exploring a topic. Unlike modern social platforms, information can be curated, and even when it isn’t it can still be retrieved with reasonable ease. They are okay for connection, but not as good as social platforms.

Of course, forums like Songstuff incorporate blogs, chat rooms, galleries, and even connect with social media. The technology in forums has continued to evolve, adding many features since forums were at their most popular. They are much more useful than they once were.

The thing is, as new platforms come along, and people move across, they still haven’t found a platform that has everything. If anything, each platform hold attention for a while. We now dwell across a bunch of platforms. Some more than others.

So far, I haven’t seen any social platform be anywhere near as good as forums for some key activities by creatives, especially musicians and songwriters.

But who says we have to find all we need in one place? After all I use various DAWs. I play various musical instruments. I go for really good coffee in really good coffee shops. Good food in restaurants. Quick food in fast food restaurants. You get the point. Location meets need.

As for the intro board…. Yes, people still say hi. Still introduce themselves. It makes sense still!

So yes. People still use this. ;)
