Overhead Mics

i'm planning on recording some live drums pretty regularly and i'm thinking of upgrading what i have.

any recommendations?

don't mind paying but more interested in quality. hopefully any recommended mics will be suitable as general ambient mics but 'sok if they aren't

Hi taipoe,

Do you have the kit mikes already? For overhead mikes I think any decent freq range mikes will work and they sell some good kit mike sets to clip on the the individual drums. I got a cheap kit on e bay, added a higher quality low range for the kicks and used my vocal mikes for overheads.

I'm sure Prom will beat me into the ground for that advice, but it worked well for the StressMonkey tapes.

Try using the Akg 414!! Use 2 of them in a parallel position about 1- 1 1/2ft away from cymbals. Thats what i use and the sound comes out nice 4 me.
