  1. Welcome guys!! I seem to drift in and out of here off and on. I don't often come in here to read all the posts. Glad i seen these posts. Nice to read your stories...or at least the parts posted here. Interesting tune Julian. Keep at it ! True talent doesn't need much. This is a good example of that.
  2. Rudi you are a distinguished man of class and taste.
  3. I'm listening to my tinnitus and a large computer router.
  4. Weeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll. That's a deep subject.

  5. Misunderstandings lead to many preconceived notions that foster opinions which lead to bad decisions.

Walk 10 miles in another mans shoes before you even begin to think you know them.

  6. Laying in fields of nothingness as the winds of change blew in.

What did the winds of change blow in?  Sounds like a good springboard for a song. (?)

    2. starise

Life change I guess. Thanks. Maybe it could be a song.

  7. It's ok to stop and "smell the roses", just remember, sometimes there's a cost even for that. Briers, snorting bees and allergies.

  8. Don't let anyone ruffle your feathers. If you do, you won't be able to fly.

Water off a ducks back;)  I guess hedgehogs would fall under a different category.:o Don't in any think I'm calling you a hedghog. I might be in that category though.

  9. What did we hope to gain in a large bucket running circles? There must have been a goal.

  10. In boating, some logs float and some logs are under the surface. If you don't see anything, this doesn't mean there are no logs. In life this is also true. The beginning of wisdom is admission of things that exist beyond our knowing.  Figuratively or maybe literally,  It may be a small breeze or a shadow that says, something is there.  I don't think our minds are the be all and end all. Even collective reasoning is limited and sometimes counter to solid answers.JMHO. YMMV

  11. I sometimes post passing thoughts and ideas here. Here's the one for today. You don't need to agree with me :)

When we make art we usually have an expectation for it. It's usually purpose driven, even when we ourselves can't recognize the pure purpose. On some level we know what is right and what doesn't seem right. If it has a good end result we are satisfied. If it doesn't, we usually feel some inner tension or struggle until we get it right.

If we are beings made by another, then it would stand to reason that being has expectations for us as it's "art".Further thinking along these lines would probably infer that we have those expectation built inside of us. Even a denial of that being wouldn't change that outcome.

Fulfilling those expectations would, in turn, fulfill us IF we are "art". In doing so, we fulfill both sets of expectations. I doubt this idea is really a processed thought. It's more like we do what we are or what we allow ourselves to be.

You Sir are an inward thinker. This early, you made my brain hurt a little.

Thanks - I now have something to ponder today during todays mindless task.

      Jim

Thanks Jim622. If I told you everything I think it might look scary. I just try to share the safe stuff :)

  12. The CORRS " Haste To The Wedding". The Gloaming
  13. " Time.....flowing like a river......to the sea....".I forget the rest :D

  14. Continuity is an illusion. I think we get bored with gradual change because it looks like continuity. If things changed too fast we would loose our points of reference.

    1. Pahchisme Plaid

Hmmmm...continuity as an illusion...got to think on that one.  Time is the thing that comes to my mind as the most unbroken.  Not sure of much else that's truly unbroken (except God).  I definitely need points of reference.  Gradual changes work for me.  Just speed it up a little, sonny! Lol!

    2. starise

I had the thought, whatever it is I'm doing right now. I eventually won't do it any more. No matter how long it seems to last. What will replace it? I don't know.

  15. Looks like you've found a good approach. I'm not familiar with the different Gibson switch layouts. I do favor the more minimalist approach and would probably opt for something similar. I have a love/hate relationship with distortion. I love distortion but I also can hate it depending. It's really hard to describe a sound but I like "focused" distortion. This seems like a misnomer, yet if the distortion is too distorted the sound looses focus and dimension. The very nature of distortion can loose too much detail and add too much mud as I'm sure you're well aware. It doesn't help that old school tube amps had to be driven louder to get the desired effects. This was good in a large space, but it could be bad in a small space with lots of standing waves. Lots of guitar players bought an amp sim floor pedal , plugged it into an amp and thought it sucked. Many of these sound much better plugged into an audio system with a full range, but these guys were using them like typical effects and they just didn't sound as good. I think it's far easier to get out of hand with a Gibson than a strat or a tele. I had a hellraiser with the EMG 90/91 setup in it and never could I get it to stay focused. No matter what I plugged it into. No it isn't a Gibson , but the layout is a close approximation to some Gibsons. I seem to prefer using a single coil tele or strat to build my distortion chain.. Mainly because it starts out cleaner, yet still has a nice bite and makes a nice place to start. Shaving off the bottom frequencies helps and one other trick Danni Danzi mentioned, listening to the tone with the source up higher to get a better representation of the sound at your ears. You don't hear an amp on the floor nearly as well. If I were playing out with HD500/Variax setup and didn't have a decent PA I would look more at something like the Line 6 L2M instead of the Line 6 DT25. The L2M will give you 100% of the quality from the HD500. The DT25 has a Bogner tube section, so it doesn't really use the tube section from the HD500. It has to be driven like an old school amp to have the distortion. Great for loud bar gigs. Not so much for recording. JMHO YMMV. You didn't reference amplification systems, but I think it all comes into play in the final result.
  16. Melodyne is probably the slickest way to do that. Works best with mono tracks. works good with percussive material (loops) . You get all kinds of other cool things in that program. It's main strength is pitch correction. Some things you can do are make a midi copy of an audio loop and port that midi to something else making backup parts...these parts can also be moved along the pitch line, so you can effectively make complimentary parts such as harmonies. It works with direct audio and also makes midi files. It works directly from within some audio programs. I use Sonar and it launches directly from Sonar if I highlight the audio or midi. I'm sure most of the more popular DAWs have this integration.
