  1. See what y'all think of this little tune here: This is a demo recording so it's rough.
  2. I like it a lot! As a music lover, I'd have this on my iPod, but this is too raw for the commercial world. I must ask, and I noticed this because you posted lyrics to your songs, how do you fit so few lyrics in a three and a half minute song? I have no Idea how people fit so few lyrics into a song. But I enjoyed this EP! Keep it up!
  3. Thanks a bunch Chased. I wrote and recorded that one night after work at about midnight and I was so new to playing that my arm got too tired to even keep up with the rhythm so I messed a few times. It's one of my favorite songs of mine. I have a few better songs on my Soundcloud account. Paisley Poplin Shirt is a good one to check out. It's a bit more radio friendly, melody wise. I posted these lyrics a while back right after I wrote it I think, and someone said that there were too many syllables to be sung and there wasn't an ABA format or whatever but I've never had trouble singing it. Of the 6/8 rhythm, I had to look up what that even was, so I guess I'm too new to truly understand any of that. Thanks a bunch though! -Cal
  4. Most of my songs lack choruses and rely on a refrain or a short hook. A lot of times the hook or refrain may appear to have no influence from or on the verses but the bigger picture usually ties it together. So in a way I follow the mantra you've stated.
  5. I really enjoyed this song by the sound of it and y'all have great vocals. I do agree with caduceus in that the vocals weren't mixed the best but it's better than what I could do with the 0 equipment I have so I don't want to sound overly judgmental. I enjoyed the sound of the song though!
  6. This is the first song I ever wrote with the guitar as an accompaniment. I got a guitar on Christmas and I wrote this song after about 6 weeks or so after teaching myself guitar so it's a very rough recording that I forgot I had even done until I was going through my archives (which songwriters tend to have many of). My voice varies from being under par and just right on the line of decent so I apologize for the lack of pop vocals. So please enjoy one of my favorite songs that I've written. Shoes of Grey (Suit of Orange)
  7. Well I hope to be a singer/songwriter in the sense of people like John Prine and Townes Van Zandt. Since my voice isn't that good, I'll only probably appeal to one fan base. I hope my songs are taken and sang by people who have good voices and have the mass appeal so people can at least hear what I have to say from someone. I also am an album junkie. I never buy singles and rarely do I buy an "essentials" album. I want to hear the artists ultimate idea. So I hope to be able to make every album I make have a piece from every genre and tell an ultimate story. I love the album making process! Also, I have a huge dream to be a record producer and own my own independent label that has every genre on it. In a nutshell, that's my goal I suppose.
  8. Well what I mean by "wishing I wrote that" is admiring a great song and being humbled by it and maybe even being jealous of it. I haven't posted many of my songs on here for anyone to reference to I guess, but every time I think one of my songs I've written is amazing and that it's perfect, I put it on the shelf for a few days, play and sing it again and then put on "It's Alright, Ma" and I soon start working on the second draft. That song humbles me as a songwriter by making me realize that I can always get better and that there will always be, at the the very least, a few people better than me at what I do.
  9. In regards to Anthony, There is just something about how Lithium contrasted a somewhat angry, melancholic, satirical message with a rather joyous melody. I just really envy it's simplicity and its ability to give you a smile as well as an internal rage. I'm a bit obsessed with contrast and balance and Cobain hit the nail on the head with that song.
  10. As a songwriter, there are always songs that I hear that I want to claw my eyes out and drop my pen because I will never amount to them. So I made a list of the top 5 songs I wish I wrote and I would like the see what songs some of you guys place in this category. It's alright, Ma (I'm only Bleeding) -Bob Dylan I'll follow you into the dark -Death Cab for Cutie Buffalo Soldier -Bob Marley Hallelujah -Leonard Cohen Lithium -NirvanaÂ
  11. Haha Krispy Kreme is a good guy. I like what he's doing. More power to him!
  12. Modern rappers. Ones worth their salt. Here's my list of favorite modern rappers (that came out in the past couple of years and are hot now). Mac Miller (You may still be stuck on "Donald Trump" but he's evolved to a very introspective artist and even has explored other genres like alternative rock and Jazz. Check out his Macadelic Mixtape and his You EP and the awesome songs he's sketched on SoundCloud. He goes by Larry Fisherman btw on SC) Macklemore (This guy tells it like it is and his vocals are awesome. He's pretty creative too and a pretty good influence for kids.) Kendrick Lamar (Lyrical Genius! And he tells it like it is too. He is a compelling story teller spitting mass amounts of metaphors and complex rhymes all while telling a detailed and personal story. He's fantastic!) J Cole (Same as Lamar. He's lyrically up there heavily and he tells stories about his personal life and has a bit of a persona about him. He's a fantastic rapper.) There are more I'm sure but those are the ones I enjoy the most. Go check them out if you're curious. -Cal
  13. Mac Miller in these songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ol-m8h1CGr8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uw8lN2axfBc And Bob Dylan... Ok just kidding about the Dylan lol But basically I don't have a very good voice at all. But I have stories that need to be told and songs that need singing. So, I'll sing anyway. -Cal
