  1. Certain artists are driven to make social comment or political comment. Its not a matter of decision making. Those who try to do this without the motivation usually produce rubbish. Those of us here are often encouraged to think about writing in a professional manner. All well and good, but it rarely goes hand in hand with writing with a passion.

    Pick Article

I can get there by your link John, but not any other way. Top Menu HUBS is as far as I get. There's no 'member' link/field/menu that I can see at all.

What happened to the member article idea? I have just spent a few minutes searching to no avail.

    Squier Esprit

I picked this up on Monday on a trip to Whitstable. I was there looking at mij (Japanese) guitars because I love 'em, but was more impressed with this mik (Korean) model. It’s a 2005 Squier Master Series Esprit. It’s a reprise of the Fender Esprit from the early 80s. Fender’s Gibson styled guitar, (just as Gibson made the Victory which was a Fender styled guitar). These were only made in 2005/2006 I think. Build quality & finish is actually on par with the mij models. Nice features are: · * Headstock design for straight string path (avoids the typical G binding and nut sauce cure) · * Scarf joined headstock (minimises breakage unlike the single piece construction) · * Through neck (edited) No, it aint a through neck! It certainly looks like it with the neck tenon reaching back into the body though. · * Split coil pickups (push–push rather then push-pull) Enjoying the sound so far, but only a gig will prove the pickups properly.
  6. When you listen to the recordings it doesn't sound like it would be loud. It's very deceptive. I saw Deep Purple in 1970 and yeah they are loud also. Now I know there is a massive difference in the acoustic of Winterland Arena and Portsmouth Guildhall, but... There is a massive difference in what you can hear. Purples sound is so high gain that at that volume you can't hear the notes (I was 16 with pretty good hearing then). The Dead are just as loud, but the cleaner sound enables you to hear everything.
  7. I went to America 1977-78. I stayed in Baltimore for a couple of months before heading west via Trailways to San Francisco. Had an interesting stop in Albuquerque along the way. I stayed in the Chinese YMCA in SF. I got sick and couldn't get treatment despite having med insurance. Lucky I got well again! Saw 2 shows at Winterland Arena 27-28-December This is one of them https://archive.org/details/gd77-12-27.sbd.cotsman.19288.sbeok.shnf It was LOUD! Every bone in my body was resonating. Check out 'Brown Eyed Women', and if you have the belly for it, 'Estimated Prophet'. Eventually I traveled back to New York by the northern route in winter (Lots of snow & overturned trucks) before coming home again.
  8. First Time I Met the Blues - Buddy Guy
  9. I wasn't thinking of buying it. I just thought it might be of interest. I know Mike is very erudite about such tech. There are many other items there that would interest me more. Here is another curiousity. At first I thought it was an original Pro-Rat-In/Electro (Ric) Spanish Guitar. Its actually a Selmer copy. Estimated sale value £100-£200 This is a genuine Electro Spanish as designed by George Beauchamp Here is one actually being played. I was amazed at how fine it sounds. Playing begins at 2.19
  10. Within You or Without You - Jimmy Herring
  11. Man of Constant Sorrow - Alison Krauss and Union Station
  12. At present I have no time to watch the film (I've had a quick look). If I do, I'll come back....
  13. I'm not entirely sure what you are asking, but I think you are asking about collaboration with artists that write music. If you literally mean giving your lyrics to existing bands as a submission, that's a little different. Either way, there are many more lyricists than there are musicians, so it wont be easy.
  14. Mike, Sounds like you did your homework well on the car. Good luck. I like the colour & the dark windows. On the Line 6 front I noticed a variax 700 at the guitar auction site I check. I've never been to any of these auctions (yet). I would like to but I know I'd buy something. If I do ever go, I'll take a couple of days off and stay in a hotel over that way. This one is scheduled for the 16th June. I'd like to look over the Tokia models and of course the older archtops. There are usually some 1950's Hofners there but of course at that age they wouldnt have truss rods. http://guitar-auctions.co.uk/catalogue-preview/
  15. Fork in the Road - Smokey Robinson
  16. Tobacco Road - The Nashville Teens Haven't heard this for years. Not much radio play? Its better than I remember. Whats it about? I dunno....
