  1. I don't really put my lyrics to music until I sit down with a band and get a feel for how they want to play the song. I'm fine with going with whatever flow flows naturally and a lot of times it's all about just finding that common ground. I wouldn't say lyricists don't experiment (lord knows I do some really weird shit to come up with some sort of "new song formula") but it can be a little harder (for me anyway) to experiment with lyrics as opposed to experiment with guitar
  2. I suppose you're right... at that point the last thing on my mind is writing a song [smiley=beerchug.gif]
  3. HAHA The words just flow out after a couple (or 20) shots eh?

  5. Alright so we've all hit it... probably multiple times. The dreaded writer's block. What are some things you guys do to help yours? I pretty much just drop everything related to music (and yes it's as hard as it sounds.. I see music wherever I go) and try to enjoy something that I enjoyed before I started playing guitar (i.e. lift weights, play catch with a friend, go for a drive *without music*, for a walk around the block, etc..). What about you guys?
  6. RIP Les Paul, you will be missed

  8. I've started venturing down this road with the crappy USB mic that I have and my PC. The only problem I run in to is I've never actually sang my songs in bands prior, because I tend to concetrate on the guitar.. I don't know if this is typical for a musician (writing lyrics and playing the guitar but not singing?..) but it seems to be the "hurdle" I'm facing at the moment. Sounds childish, and it is, but I've always been afraid of people hearing me sing
  9. Well probably because I don't have a band with me... just my thoughts, pen and paper, and an acoustic guitar [smiley=acoustic.gif]
  10. Oh all kinds haha... I pretty much just use the environment I'm in at the moment... whether it be lying in bed, listening to music, just looking outside, etc etc. Inspiration comes in all shapes and sizes
  11. thanks for all the great tidbits guys! I think I'm starting to figure my inner melody out!!
  12. I have a hard time finishing songs because I tend to lose my rhythm that I had first started with... Which brings me to my question; what do you guys usually write your music to? A backing track? A metronome? The sounds of silence? lol..
  13. I learned how to play the guitar about 4 years ago, when I was 18 years old. I started "writing" lyrics when I was 14... which was 8 years ago. I am just NOW putting both of those together and finding my own melody at the age of 22. So what I'm saying is... the only thing stopping anyone from making music is themself. OH and I forgot to mention, I have no formal education of music. Everything I've learned has been on my own time, in my own setting.
  14. I agree with roxhythe -- in so many words, people that are living.. real.. people.. make the internet. The internet is life in it's most basic essence. You choose how you perceive it. You either take part in it (interact with the internet) or you abstain from it (choose to ignore it's there). Either way -- as John Frusciante says in his song "Unreachable" off of his new album "The Empyrean": One time, hit me where I turn white... I don't need to be polite BEAUTIFUL.. Spin in the world to the beat of my drum UNIFORM
  15. Well I guess I'll take a shot at getting the ball rolling.. For one, the internet changed EVERYTHING. I realize that's broad, but when you begin thinking about what the internet actually made available to musician's once other musicians started using it; the boundaries of what you could learn about music and ultimately what you could do with music became almost non-existent
